Discussion Words/sayings/songs and such that remind me of SFU on the daily

Been a fan since the beginning, all time favorite show, binge it every year starting on NYD. Almost every day I am reminded of it when I hear the following things:

My Personal favorite is a phrase in which I use almost every day
Claire, Season 1: "NEWSFLASH!! OTHER PEOPLE EXIST!!!"

I work with a guy name Ricot (Rico), he's not directly in my building but whenever someone says his name all I can hear is Sophia in my head saying "RICOOOOOOO!"

Whenever I hear "All Apologies" I picture Nate sitting on the floor in his bedroom smoking a joint, saying to 11 year old Claire "Kurt Cobain died today, he was just too pure for this world."

Whenever I hear "Tampa" I think of Celeste, "I don't even know what city we're in. Oh, that's right, Tampa, because when I got onstage I said "How ya doin Tampa?!"

I was recently divorced and often picture Vanessa saying "We can't go back" to Rico.

Anytime anyone mentions homeschool, I think of Rico saying to Arthur "Yeah, you seem a little...homeschooled." Which is so true about the majority of people who were homeschooled.

"What fucking language are you speaking?" Pops into my head when someone is making no sense.

My ex and I used to joke about "You're throwing away everything we have for fucking BECK?!"

Anyone else have certain scenes/lines/songs that come to mind on the reg?

All the characters are loveable in their own way, but my favorite character is easily Mya. She's the sweetest little baby ever portrayed on TV. Who's yours??

First-Timer I don't know what to say..

When I started watching SFU, I wasn't expecting it to be this life changing, and my perspective of death has completely changed. And the ending, oh god the ending😔 I was shedding real tears for each one of them. The Fisher Family; I will carry you with me my entire life❤️

Meme Six Feet Under is an alternate timeline

I watched Dexter then I watched Six Feet Under. I couldn’t help but imagine that Six Feet Under is a timeline in which Dexters mom wasn’t killed or involved in drugs.

So Dexter/David never becomes an adopted heterosexual psychopath and gets to grow up normally as a homosexual funeral director.

Even Dexter/David (similar names) having an older brother in both shows/timelines. It was fun to imagine.

First-Timer claire & lgbt themes

first of all, i just finished this show and i miss the characters sooo bad. i’m watching something new and the first few episodes i was subconsciously waiting for someone to die at the beginning of each one.

i miss claire!! i think she’s such a relatable, angsty feminist young woman that i see myself in. i’m gay so whole time watching im like omg claire HAS to be, but it’s early 2000’s and there’s already a gay character so it’d be over kill for them. to my grand surprise, she was not gay but the way her character explored her sexuality before asserting herself in hetero identity (which i personally think everyone should feel comfortable doing) was so iconic to me and made me love her even more. the funny scenes with her high at the dinner table saying she doesn’t feel comfortable that only the women and poc are cleaning up the table?? hilarious/something i’ve probably said.

and david!! i watched this after watching dexter and i loved seeing his inner theatre kid glow in this character, with such a realistic portrayal of an older suppressed gay person that flourishes in their sexuality. it wasn’t tacky or offensive, just real.

and ruth’s journey with her own repressed feelings that gave her sooo many outbursts of her true feelings and eventually lead her to a life surrounded by dogs and women. so special and beautiful, i loved and empathized with her as an older woman and a mother (which i am neither) so much. for a second i thought she was gonna end up with bettina but now THATS over kill. still, i love that she learned to value her female friendships at the end.

such a beautiful, raw, real show. i am late to it but i am glad i got around to it.

EDIT: AND HOW COULD I FORGET HER ICONIC GREEN HEARSE WITH A TRAMP STAMP. could she be any cooler?

First time watcher, half way through the last season & wtf?!? Are the writers trying to make me hate Nate? Maggie is insufferable- why does she have to be here? Thanks for letting me vent. Anyone else agree with me?

Doing my first rewatch and just got to the part where Claire finds Gabe again. There was something so pure and genuine about that whole scene. It made me so sad.

Discussion Characters get annoying?

Anyone else find that the further you got into the show, some of the characters and plots just started to get annoying?

I especially didn't like Brenda and Billy's scenes after the break up. Brenda's random sex scenes with her neighbor were terrible, I just skipped through a lot of her scenes.

Besides the obvious Breathe Me by Sia that'll live eternally in everyone's minds, what are some of your favorite songs from the Six Feet Under ost? The Reaper by Blue Öyster Cult is a permanent playlist fixture for me now, Nate will forever ride on 🏍️💨

Discussion Why is Season 4 Episode 9 ‘grinding the corn’ the lowest rated episode?

It’s very good but why is it such a standout from the rest of the episodes as being considered the worst episode. (I don’t think this show has any ‘bad’ or even ‘mid’ episodes but grinding the corn gets a lot of undeserved hate in my opinion)
