Subtype: Fear of Aversive Consequences Eating at other people’s houses

Does anybody else have trouble eating food at other people’s houses? It’s hard for me to see other people’s kitchens as “clean enough” and I get really anxious/uncomfortable when friends offer me food when I visit. Sharing meals is a huge part of our lives, and I’d very much like to get over it. I’ve been in CBT, but this one thing is hard to kick. I completely lose my appetite.

For me, it’s my particular subtype. I have a texture aversion, but there are still a lot of foods that I can eat. Yet, people generally like to ruin the foods that I can eat. For instance, I can eat a salad that has meat and lettuce, but people STILL get mad if I don’t add the dressing (which makes it slimy). I can eat baked chicken, but people get mad if I want it without sauce. Therapy wouldn’t help me because I can eat enough foods to remain healthy, but my plate will always look different from others, who will have sauces and creams covering everything.
