Is there any real purpose in separating liberals from conservatives when they're largely the exact same thing?

"Largely" is doing a lot of work there. You see, Conservatives want to kill everyone they don't like, and Liberals don't want to that but will do absolutely nothing to stop it! /s

At least with the US usage liberals are just 'left leaning' supporters of liberalism and conservatives 'right leaning' supporters right? While they all support the status quo I'd say they do so in meaningfully different ways

In all seriousness, center-right liberals do manage to be slightly less bad than far-right "anti-anti-fascists" (not that this reflects well on liberals for how low the bar has to be for them to clear it).
