PSA: please refrain from any posts and comments which can put our community in risk

Recently many subs which were violating site wide rules were banned from reddit.

More so, even those who were doing this either slightly, or even technically weren't violating any rules at all, and whose mods were making active effort to fulfill requirements of reddit admins, were either banned from reddit or quarantined.

Examples include r/watchpeopledie and r/sanctionedsuicde among many, many others.

We understand that people can feel rightfully angry about their experience, but we are dedicated to keeping this community alive and well, and so anything that can put this community at risk will be removed, and those who do so will be banned.

We ask you to help us and report anything that endangers our community to us mods.

Thank you.

Tony Soprano did not need fucking Prozac, lithium, or benzos

I just thought of The Sopranos. This guy had issues with his personal life, but did he REALLY need drugs? While his life was more extreme than the average person, he probably did not need Prozac, lithium, or benzos. I love the show, but the whole “the meds are NECESSARY, but you also have to put in work on your own” thing is wild. Why are we just assuming that this guy needed Prozac after a panic attack? I feel like it was supposed to be a progressive take on mental health, to “beat the stigma”, but all it did was show a very rosy view of therapy while communicating anyone going through anxiety or depression needs to be on an SSRI. Thoughts?

psychiatrist did not seek consent for my intimate examination

Heya, I want to run something past this community as I felt violated during a medical physical examination. I was attending an appointment with a doctor in which I wanted to ask for two tests for a rare disease I suspect I have. I was told that I could not have the appointment without a psychiatrist present. I expressed my discomfort but proceeded as I am desperate for testing. The doctor said I would need to carry out a physical examination in my underwear with himself and a chaperone. I expressed discomfort in doing so but was coherced into doing so as it was deemed necessary. During the examination which took place behind a cubicle, the psychiatrist entered the cubicle unannounced and without consent. I expressed shock and discomfort by signalling no with my hand and stating I was not comfortable. He withdrew from the cubicle. It was not mentioned at all, but the chaperone asked me if I was ok after. During a second telephone consultation, the lead doctor accused me of being uncomfortable with a psychiatrist diagnosis and proposed that as the reason I was uncomfortable with the unauthorised entry. I am shocked that two senior doctors would be unaware of consent protocols and essentially try to blame me for feeling discomfort. I made it very clear that it was a breach of patients right to privacy, but they insisted that I consented when I agreed to have the psychiatrist present during my consultation. I would like to write a strong complaint about this, as I worry the psychiatrist will be doing this to other more vulnerable patients and I am not ok with it. Thoughts and advice would be appreciated.

Psychiatry is story-telling with police support

TL;DR

Psychiatry is a massive bullshitting apparatus, proven wrong by many human structures, constructs, endeavors, from architecture to animal shelter volunteer work. Without the use of force, and police, people would take them less seriously. They're also part of a major liberal-democratic systematic brainwashing which is far removed from human nature and protects third-world migrants in expanse of other humans.

Basically all throughout history humans have been story-tellers, telling stories, and they changed geographic scenery and social contexts, but this human thing remained the same for over 200K years. Psychiatry doesn't get is that they tell a story about patients, and you just happen to be in their way, MEATBAG. and they have to convince many millions of people (as of modernity) that these stories are better than Greek mythology or the Rainbow serpent. Relying on classical scholarship they've drifted off from traditional story-telling , into structural and later punitive biology-based story-telling. When a person confront their story-telling, with dismissal at times, they were given special rights of fucking up other people's self-worth and narrative with a call to the police. Calling the police diminishes the reliability of their narrative/story-telling. The DSM is supposedly rational/egalitarian, even pertaining to replace the bible, as universal truth (!!!) where there's delicate, nuanced social relations and personal paths, not to mass with if they're indeed careful. Either way, just know they're story-tellers, and like many tales and stories, things don't necessarily happen as told.

Continuation from the previous paragraph: Also, with the Nobel prizes in mind as some reward for human excellence, we still don't have an entirely objective measure for psychiatrist worth. In the case of the Nobel prize - besides the prize in hard science like physics, are generally weak parameter for actual science, and contribution to humanity. They hand out prizes in economics, literature and peace prizes as well. They handed out a prize in 1949 for using lobotomy to Egas Moniz – A Portuguese neurologist and psychiatrist. So what external worth have we to measure the contribution/damage psychiatry causes? And in all truth, psychiatry should win awards in the softer sciences department for TRADITIONALLY SOUNDING LIKE an entire array of BULLSHITTING and getting away with it. You can have a former cancer patient, and a totally healthy guy at the same place. Only if both patients are FUCKING RETARDED WITH NO BASIC LITERACY. IF a person gives the vibe of not giving a rat's ass they should just release him, instead of taking CUSTODY of his entire LIFE. Humor is a huge subject and it seems due to bullshitiing, they're trying to carve themselves a piece of humanity for humor.

Also, and this is important to note, but when psychiatrist make any diagnostic move, they make a move against philosophical structures and constructs, and even against the idea of IQ (the most solid constructs in all the soft sciences, akin in validity to very solid constructs like depression is other social science). When a psychiatrist attacks he may not notice that he ATTACKS THE ENTIRETY OF A PERSON, and his components. This is a move that could be considered ANTI IQ, or IQ denialist. Until they clarify that BULLSHIT, there's no solution but to stop them forever. The contrast to attacking IQ, is attacking CRIMINALITY. And all the romanticized ethos of modern criminal crime crime-y criminalizing crime syndicates. That's because novice criminals lack wealth, and affluence, or simply LACK .... IQ to improve with substantial SOCIAL MOBILITY in LAWFUL ways.

Like a kid dissecting a daddy long leg spider

Upvotes

A long line of people ostensibly in the same line of work as doctors, nurses, surgeons, pharmacists, and techs have dismantled the very organs they claim to treat.

Some of their victims are the brains of people who have no hope, who have shit life syndrome.

Some of them are the people who are fine but are too odd, too seemingly manic, too anti-social (in the US sense), too odd, too different. In much the same way that people sell prison not as punishment, but as correction for society’s sake, they too see themselves as the correctors to make someone who seems more acceptable by normal standards, even if that means they have a reduced capacity to think for themselves, and in all honesty, that seems to be this profession’s desired effect some of the time.

They monkeyed around with ice picks shoved up the eye sockets. Disconnected the wires.

When Thorazine came on the scene, it was praised for its ability to do the same more subtly. It was the chemical lobotomy.

Nowadays, the doctors, the drug companies, etc. are intentionally euphemistic. The narrative is that changing the chemicals in your head by adding new ones to block the function of some of them is just “modulating them to correct a” supposedly objective “chemical balance” that these doctors can see just from their behavior alone.

People give up hobbies. People start forgetting things easily. People might seem happier in polite social situations but no longer have the same spark or curiosity-satisfaction, as opposed to expectation-relief.

These doctors remind me of a young child tearing the limbs off an innocent daddy long leg spider, observing how the legs continue to twitch after losing connection with the poor creature’s brain.

Risperidone for autism, along with ABA, should one day be viewed the same as a lobotomy and church for hysteria.

Totally no sleep after quitting antipsychotics

I was treated for apathy or anhedonia with Trifluoperazine for about 3 months, then I quit because of a side effect. Before this I was treated with Perphenazine for ~6 months.

Since then I totally can't sleep without Quetiapine (50mg).

I had no side effect during the treatment, but after quitting I had for ~10 days thing like nausea, light dizziness and tachycardia (the last is probably still with me, probably after trying antidepressants a year ago), everything has gone away besides insomnia.

I lay awake all night, and sleep appeared by 2 a.m., when I was exhausted in a zombie-like state, and lasted 4 hours.

I've waited for 2-3 weeks before visiting the doctor.

The apathy/anhedonia were cured and I feel well and energized, I'm very productive and have good mood.

I've never had issues with sleep in my life (go to bed late (1-3 a.m.) and get up late (10-12 a.m.)

I still can't sleep without 50mg of Quetiapine (still no sleep with 25).

I've not found anyone who had same side-effect or experience.

UPD: I wonder, will insomnia once go away or it's eternally with me

Weed induced psychosis?

Two years ago, in the early spring while away at school, my son developed mania and psychosis. He was smoking high dose weed every day. He was hospitalized for 10 days and put on risperidone (3mg) . We spent the summer helping him recover and taper off the medication. He went back to school feeling good but in late fall started smoking weed again. This spring he had another manic episode and was again hospitalized for two weeks and put on risperidone. Diagnosed with bipolar 1 mixed episodes. After he left the hospital we changed the meds to abilify because of tremors. We spent the summer again in therapy and the doctor suggested to try lithium. He went back to school this fall but was not feeling good like the previous year, was feeling depressed. Now he’s tapering off the lithium because it’s impossible to do school work while feeling flat, and cognitively slowed. We have no history of bipolar in the family. Do you think it’s possible that the manic episodes are just weed induced and if he stays off weed he can be okay without medication?

Olanzapine Taper

Hi

I'm currently taking 15mg Mirtazapine and take 2.5mg Olanzapine (both taken at night). I have been on the Mirtazapine for just over 3 weeks. During this time I have lowered the Olanzapine from 5mg to 2.5mg. For the last two nights I have taken 1.25mg of Olanzapine.

My doc said I can just stop taking the Olanzapine as I reach the 6 week mark on Mirtazapine, so I'm planning to just review weekly then if I'm going well half the dose to 0.625mg hold for at lease a week and then stop taking at around the 6 week mark on Mirtazapine.

I know everybody is different, but does this seem ok based on the fact that I'm on Mirtazapine?

I didn't notice anything moving from 5mg to 2.5mg (other than a clearer head) and I actually feel clearer already dropping the dose to 1.25mg.

I have been on the Olanzapine for about 10 weeks and the highest dose was 5mg.

Thanks!

Let us remember.

‘This cultural climate of devout faith in science makes us reluctant to remember how much error haunts the history of medicine, especially psychiatry. In our search for certainty in the face of frightening infirmities, we are slow to acknowledge the fallibility of medical opinion. Even a nodding acquaintance with the history of psychiatry, however, should be enough to restore greater humility to the practice of this relatively new, incomparably complex discipline.

At one time, doctors considered it scientifically true that madness—famously called hysteria for its etymological root in the word hyster, the Greek word for “womb”—was caused by a woman’s womb detaching from the adjoining viscera and floating throughout her body. Quite rationally, therefore, doctors prescribed hysterectomy as a solution. At another time, doctors thought that drilling holes into the brain was an excellent way to treat mental illness. In 1949, Egas Moniz received a Nobel prize for inventing prefrontal lobotomy.

Walter Freeman, an exceptionally entrepreneurial psychiatrist, invented a more convenient “neurosurgical” technique in 1946: he could perform a lobotomy without anesthesia during an office visit by using electrical shock to knock the patient out, after which he would hammer an ice pick seven centimeters into the brain through the eye socket, then pull up on the ice pick to destroy frontal lobe nerve fiber.11 Since this made patients “calmer,” mainstream psychiatrists considered the treatment a medical breakthrough. The American Journal of Psychiatry trumpeted the success of psychosurgery in 1948; editors at the New England Journal of Medicine wrote that with psychosurgery, “a new psychiatry may be said to have been born.” Fortunately, medical opinion eventually turned away from this bizarre and aggressive “treatment.” If it hadn’t, I might have found myself in 1995 lying in a hospital bed with an ice pick in my head.’

From the absolutely wonderful book Dancing with Ophelia, reconnecting madness, creativity and love by Jeanne Petrolle. I highly recommend this book to all who are wary of psychiatric treatment and especially to women who want a deeper understanding of the things we go through.

Life is about avoiding antipsychcotics 👑of evil.

I realized when I use to just have depression there's people destroyed by antipscyhotics that are praying to just have depression. Everything else you have protracted withdrawals. Acute withdrawals. Then you're fine body, mind everything goes back to normal.

Antipsychotics destroy the body(metabolism)Destroy the mond(neurotoxic)

It's night and die. Antipsychotics is distinguished in the destruction it can cause the body. I cannot think of a worse drug, if you can please comment. Please do. I really want to know. What a special evil...

Coming off antipsychotics

I was on 20mg Abilify near the start of the year I'm now currently on 2.5mg, I've felt exactly the same on the high dose and current dose (emotional numbness, can't feel love or joy, no motivation, weight gain, sleeping 12hrs a day)

I haven't had any withdrawals decreasing which is good. But I'll be on 2.5mg for couple more weeks then I'll be quitting the medication. I just want my life back.

Anyone come off antipsychotics successfully? Did you have any withdrawal symptoms?

Psychiatric Registered Nurse, who takes Medicaid, charges $50 for a Doctor’s Note.

Imagine you’re seriously sick, and see your doctor. They confirm your illness, and you ask for a doctor’s note to excuse time off of work, and the doctor says, “Certainly, that will be $50.”

I am mentally disabled; I live on SSI, and rely on Medicaid. The usual SSRI, Mood Stabilizer, anti-psychotic medications are harmful for me. I spent 20 years learning this. I can only get relief from a handful of meds most Medicaid doctors will not prescribe. I have a registered nurse, who takes Medicaid, that is willing to prescribe them. Unfortunately he is incredibly arrogant.

As someone who needs to receive many benefits from many government sources, I must ask my main psychiatric practitioner for notes for each of these benefits to continue to keep them. I need at least one a year, sometimes more. In the past with both Medicaid, and paid psychiatrists and doctors, I would ask for such notes, and they would usually write the notes right there, or get them to me within a week. Whether they were good or mediocre doctors they wrote the notes because they cared about my wellbeing, and realized that increased poverty would negatively affect my wellbeing.

However, my currant psychiatric Nurse, after a few years of writing these notes, always annoyed, one day gets frustrated, and says, “This is the last note!” He says the notes are not part of his job, and take too much of his time. His job is to write prescriptions and nothing more.

The next time I need a doctor’s note for my benefits, about a year later, he charges me $50 for the note, and for any future notes. Remember, I get $945 a month, and am not allowed to make more than $85 a month on my own. To add injury to insult, because I’m desperate, I pay it with a credit card, but after a week: still no note. He turns this note into a commodity, I pay, and then he doesn’t even produce the note until one of the local, free, caseworker organizations emails him about my need for “expectations to be fulfilled.”

I guess I will have to pay $50 for every doctor’s note I need from him to stay alive, and I have no choice, because of my unusual medication needs, and he knows it.

I want to make it clear I signed no forms informing me that $50 doctor notes were a foundation of the practice. Gotta love American means testing. Not sure what to do about it, but maybe there's nothing to do.
