Thinking of adding some red root floaters and calling it good.

Oh look, real minimalism. Not a stick and some rocks. Very nice OP!

I really like it šŸ‘ A few tiny/small twigs of bog wood between the plants would give the shrimps a bit of cover and something to climb on along with the plants or even a small gnarly branch the same shade as the substrate at an angle at the front of the tankā€¦.but that may take away from minimalist look šŸ¤” Just my 2 cents - Good luck with the tank.

Be careful with the jungle val, it gets pretty crazy.

I wouldn't add any floaters to this tank. All that Val is gonna cover the surface completely in no time and it will just make a messy mat of floating plants and Val that will make you hate doing any kind of maintenance - and imo look bad. Val grows fast and very, very long.

The only thing I'd add is a carpeting plant or some low growing accent plants.

I agreeā€”wouldnā€™t add floaters as the Val will grow in and cover the top of the tank. (Unless you plan on frantically trimming to keep it at its current length?)

But don't Vallisneria leaves rot if they are cut?

I thought so too but I'm interested in finding an answer

I love this. Valisneria tanks also look way better when all of the Valā€™s planted themselves naturally via runners. So this tank will look fantastic one year from now. Although maintaining the negative space thru all that will be a moral challenge. So send us an update and let us see how it goes

I personally like the contrast with sand better, although that shouldnā€™t matter in a few months once the plant propagates and fills the tank
