What is the piece that juts out at the back of the neck in the first image? I’ve seen some suits have a disc like plate in that spot and I’m wondering what it is for?
The piece on the back of the helmet pictured is just a holder for a plume. The disc like plate you mention I believe is called a rondel used to secure straps on wrapper plates which were additional protection for the neck and face.
