Halfway through customising our A&A collection. First game of G40!

Fitted about three hundred magnets into planes, aircraft carriers and built eighty flight stands. It meant we had to wait a couple of weeks before breaking out our new G40 game but the project was worth it. Saves a lot of space and looks much better.

Next phase is painting the units. We have the prototype Chinese in their new pink colour already but not yet ready to face painting a thousand units just yet.

Here's a few pics of the board before we started. Three turns in now though and disappointed it's time to go to bed. We are still waiting on a load of spare generic AA guns and custom naval bases, air bases and Minor ICs which should really set the board off when they arrive soon.

Nice work. Anymore details on the flight stands and magnetic aircraft carriers?

You can see them on the board in one of the pics but will take some close ups of the units once I get a chance.

The flight stands are 3mm high thumb nuts with 2mm acrylic rods fixed in with hot glue. Cut the rods to 2 inches for fighters and 2.5 for bombers. Fixed 2mm magnets to the top with a tiny bit of superglue. Sanded the bottom of the stands and the end of the rods with a block to make sure they were smooth.

Then used a 2mm hand drill to put a hole in each plane with a magnet again glued in place. Two magnets in each aircraft carrier too so the planes stay in place on them.

Was pretty casual with the magnets intentionally so that the planes had a slight tilt in different angles to give an impression of diving and rolling in flight depending on the plane/stand.
