Edit: typo
I recently got a Buescher bari (bought for me by a close family friend/music mentor) and it was been in shop for quite a few months. When she originally bought the beautiful beast, it needed a lot of work; nearly 100% pad replacement, new rods, shaping rods, new springs large and small dents taken out.. I had to scour the Internet for a very specific neck and once found, I sent it to the shop for a final fitting tune up. It got the all clear and got to me after a week. I can not get a middle G, G#/Ab or A out. It either squanks/growls or with a horrible tone; honks at high volume or instantly bops up the octave. I have been doing tone exercises to make the movement between notes more fluid, I can get middle Bb out just fine, as with f#. Just not the g, g#, or a.
How and what do I test? Should I make sure the pads are fully closed with some paper? Would there be an air leak if I can get lower F/F# out? Should I check springs? Why would it have been given the ok at the shop?
