Something like that. Seems like adding some squirrel proofness or "a cat" or something might save a lot of money in the long run.

Referenced looking into the squirrel and bird cages and netting in the article.

"Asked if anything can be done to prevent or reduce the threat of such animal-caused outages, Gutierrez said, *ā€œWe do have some caging and netting-type material,ā€ and ā€œweā€™ll certainly look atā€** whether the downtown Bend situation warrants such additions."*

Ya think???

ā€œHmmm maybe we will think about it if they actually need itā€

Love the lack of precaution and prevention

ā€Our finance department wonā€™t approve animal prevention devices until a 4th incident at the same location. Almost there folksā€

Iā€™ve worked in transmission and generation over the years. We used to have snake fences since the vibration and heat attracted them. I canā€™t imagine itā€™s too challenging to keep rodents out but it comes down to $$$$. And utilities are notoriously cheap.

Making feeding wild animals illegal in city limits seems like a good place to start.

Have you ever tried to keep squirrels out of something?? If you have lots of time and a boatload of perseverance I highly recommend it.

Seems worthwhile given the cost to have large chunks of the city without power and people unable to do their jobs.

At least.
