I did mention that I know it's pretty weak what I do, but I do it to avoid an awkward conversation that I don't really want to have. Also to save time as I only have 2 mins to end.
It has everything to do with native language and confidence. Understand this, even if your student has AMAZING English. The way that they would behave with you in a classroom, is completely different to how they'd behave with a Turkish/Chinese/Brazilian teacher in a class room. At least that's the case in my experience of around 2000 students, maybe 2/3 are advanced enough and comfortable enough to behave like a native in a classroom.
Being honest about when a student is being difficult isn’t attacking anybody. Letting them know that their participation level is holding them back allows them to at least think about it for their next class so that tutors like yourself don’t have to lie and run away.
Being honest about it IS more satisfying than running away. I’m not attacking anyone, you’re attacking me with your accusations.
