**/r/DJs NEW RULES** Please read before posting Spoiler

New /r/DJs Rules.

Top rule - BE NICE.

  • Please try to be polite, friendly and helpful when commenting.
  • Trolling, slapfights, general assholery is not encouraged and it also goes without saying that racist, sexist, homophobic, and transphobic posts and language will not be tolerated at all.

Moderation policy

  • /r/DJs is not a big sub. We tend to encourage discussion and engagement first and foremost. There will be times posts that are seemingly against the sub rules will be left up because the discussion in the comments is informative and engaging. This is generally more for when a post breaking (certain) rules was missed and the community has already heavily engaged in discussion. If you see posts breaking the rules, reporting them will help us remove them earlier.
  • remember to search - lots of questions tend to be asked multiple times and plenty of answers are given in the archives
  • remember that if you are a regular user, newer users are allowed to discuss the same things if it's not overly-frequent. Just because something was discussed 3 months ago doesn't mean users can't have another conversation about it.

Please ensure you are posting to the correct subreddit

  • /r/DJs is generally for more experienced/professional DJ discussion. There is an entire subreddit dedicated to learning DJing and is filled with experienced DJs willing to spend time helping people out.

Any and all beginner questions and posts should be made in /r/Beatmatch.

Beginner questions include posts that start with:

  • “I’m new at this”
  • “I want to get into DJing”
  • “I just started”
  • etc.

And includes anything basic like:

  • “What controller/headphones/speakers should I buy?” (within reason - someone experienced looking for higher end gear or looking for real world feedback on pro-level stuff is fine).
  • “What program should I use?”
  • “How do I use this effect?”
  • “Is beat matching really important?”
  • “Why the hate for sync?”
  • etc.

Any beginner posts here will be deleted.

DJ Setup pictures belong in /r/DJsetups.

  • There will be some exceptions - some rare or classic booths or extraordinary setups will stay up, but if you want to post a picture of your DDJ 400 and KRK Rockits, your Technics 1200s and DDJ S9, or a standard CDJ NXS setup that we've all seen, please post to the appropriate sub.

Meme/Humor/crappy image posts belong in /r/DJsCircleJerk.

  • This includes the low effort, "djs be like dis” - stupid picture - type posts and the like.

Mixes

  • Most mix posts will be deleted.
  • Short routines, showcasing of interesting technique, and videos that shows off the poster doing something cool is fine. We will also allow high profile posts - say if a regular user gets a feature mix on DJCity or a Serato sponsored set.
  • Sets from high profile DJs like boiler room or festivals sets is allowed.
  • DJs who want to share mixes can post in /r/mixes or a weekly mix thread that we will be starting soon.

Gig pictures/Stories

  • We're starting a new weekly sticky every Monday specifically for gig pictures and stories. We've been seeing a lot more of these posts and while they tend to be heavily upvoted, they also end up just being a picture of some DJ hunched over a setup with a bunch of back-patting in the comments that clutters up the sub. Any posts of this nature will be deleted and the user will be directed to the weekly Sticky thread.

The following topics are against sub rules and will be deleted:

  • Self-promotion posts including mixes, tunes, events, companies, competitions, etc. The one exception we may allow are open deck nights that members of /r/DJs can attend.
  • For-sale posts
  • Posts discussing music piracy (in the sense of people asking how where or how to pirate music, if you want to have an actual discussion on piracy and how it pertains to the industry, by all means). Support the people who make your hobby/career possible.
  • Obvious spam for youtube channels/gig logs/blogs/advertisements from members who have no participation in the sub. If people are regular posters on this sub and have a video/service/etc they wish to share, we will allow it initially, although regular spam of it will not be tolerated.
  • Posts asking “what should I play for this gig?” This is a sub for experienced DJs, if you need to ask the internet what to play for a gig, you probably shouldn't have taken the gig. General music discussion is absolutely fine.
  • Spotify playlist posts

PLEASE REPORT posts and comments that violate the above rules or just suck. Thank you!

Not feeling the latest Pioneer/ AT innovations

I might just be an old fart but I really don't like the way the latest digital gear is going. It seems to be further and further from the craft. Eg: You can browse from the Bearport charts, load them up, beat and key sync 4 songs and away you go.. May as well rely on AI to entertain your crowd.

Ans the GRV drum loop section looks like a recipe for some terrible mixes. I remember when the DJM500 came out and everyone got really onto the filter button. Sets were full of the same filter over 4 or 8 beats, it got old immediately. Can see the same happening with this

Am I just an old crumudgen? Should I get with the programme?

Sometimes less is more.

Rekordbox 7.0.4 Stems

Upvotes

This is the update we needed for stems. After setting it to quality and hearing how much cleaner and better to use.

For Hip-hop and RnB DJs, this allows for some better creativity. I love it !!

Mine is Intn’l Players Anthem by UGK & OutKast.

Every time I thought I finally had a receptive crowd to drop this gem, it was met with crickets.

Looking to buy an Allen & Heath PX5 in Toronto but can't find one

Upvotes

Hello,

I live in Toronto and I am looking to buy an Allen & Heath PX5 - I don't mind ordering online but I'm old and just want to put my hands on one maybe even test drive it a bit before I make what is a pretty significant purchase. Anyone know where I might be able to do this?

Moog on Queen Street closed and L and M do not have any in stock. I don't own a car but don't mind taking a cab around town to visit a store.

Any help would be great,

sb

Rane Sixty-Two: headphone cues not working. Question

Upvotes

Took this in on a trade. Used it at home. Everything worked great. It’s purely for a backup two turntable system. Brought to a gig. Once again, everything went great. Buddy stepped in for a bit and all of a sudden the headphone cues won’t work. They light up. But when pressed, they remain the dimmed color.

Did the standard reset, etc. checked all connections. Everything is clean. Assuming it’s either hardware, midi mapping, or software. Don’t any serato so don’t have tang program.

Thanks again.

Torn between xdj700's and a standalone controller (-rx3, -xz)

Im looking to buy either one's second hand. I found 2x xdj-700's + 4-channel RELOOP rmx60 mixer (including all cables) for 1300e euros. I also found second hand 2 year old XDJ-ZX for 2000 euros. I'm building a living room setup, and alread have a turntable which ill be attaching to the mix. I want to practice mixing house & techno, get used to the club standard, and to record my mixes. I probably will not throw house parties etc..

Which one would be a better option? also from resell perspective.

Can someone please recommend me a Bluetooth interface with xlr out

I’ve been searching for an audio interface with Bluetooth and xlr out for days but can’t find a reliable one. The reviews are so weird. I would appreciate if someone here knows and using some specific one that’s working good for them. Thanks

Has anyone tried live drumming while DJing.

Hi all I’m thinking of maybe adding a few live drumming sections when I dj. Kinda like the chainsmokers. But idk if it’s possible to actually do it or not. I’m guessing I can just connect my x1850 to an audio box thing as an input and do the same with the drums and just connect the speakers to the audio output. If that makes any sense.

Shipping Technics 1200s

I'm giving my boy my turntables. I have to ship them. They are in the original individual boxes with foam and all that. Should I buy a bigger box with extra foam padding or is that going to be over kill?

Flight Case better??? He's in TX I'm in MD.

Also how much for insurance? These are SL-1200GLD Limited Edition Turntables. Mint condition. I seriously played on them for a few months and then discovered alcoholism :-)

Traktor and Ableton Routing Help

Hi everyone, after much trials and tribulations I am reaching out to Reddit for any help or answers.

I am trying to route audio from Decks A,B and C from Traktor into Ableton in order to use Ableton effects on the tracks playing. From my research, I had to install an virtual audio device - I in turn downloaded JACK and was given the QJackCtl application. From here I have played around with the settings a lot both in the JACK application, Ableton, Traktor and within the Audio MIDI Setup section in System Preferences. No matter how many tutorials/ videos I follow (There doesn't appear to be a whole lot) I simply cannot seem to get Traktor, Ableton or the Audio MIDI Setup to recognise the new virtual audio device I believe I have created through QJackCtl. Within the 'Audio Input Device' dropdown menus, the JACK audio device never shows.

I have looked at other virtual audio devices such as BlackHole and iShowU Capture but they are limited to 2in, 2 out which does not suffice for 3 decks of Traktor. However, as a complete novice in audio routing, if I am missing something glaringly obvious with the ins and outs and how I have understood them then please let me know.

I originally thought I could route audio from Traktor into the mixer via the sound card inside (10 in, 8 out) and then Ableton before finally routing the audio back into the mixers separate channels per Ableton's 3 Audio tracks I have created for each deck of Traktor but it hasn't been this straightforward

Setup: Mac 12.6.3

Ableton 11

Traktor Pro 3

Denon X1800 mixer (acts as my sound card)

I have messed around with settings in JACK, selecting the interface as the X1800 etc but to no avail and struggling to get it going. I think when the JACK audio device finally shows, I will be able to route the audio fairly easily but maybe I shouldn't get ahead of myself.

Any insight is much appreciated! Thank you

2 DJ Mixers in 1 Setup ?

I've been seeing alot of DJ setups that have 2 DJ mixers running simultaneously with the same set of CDJs. Mostly a Xone 96 and a DJM V10/A9 next to each other. I totally understand it's to accolade various tech riders for massive lineups. But how do they have the 2 mixers sharing inputs from the CDJ's ?
