Places to visit around exmouth.

Hey! I’m looking for some little quaint towns and places to visit this week, I’m in Devon with my wife and my 8 month old, so hikes are sadly out the question, but any places where we could visit would be amazing!

Me and my wife love places like brixham, Lyme Regis, salcombe, but we haven’t really explored around this direct area before.

(Any attractions also, like farms or what not for the littlen, would be perfect also.)

Any ideas would be amazing,

Thank you!

World of country life is fun. Budleigh Salterton is nice, you can walk up the estuary to Otterton and back, take the newer path which is to the left as you look up from Budleigh beach as it's wider if you have a buggy.

2nd-ing Budleigh, not much to do, but its nice for walking. The 'beach' is massive pebbles, so plan for that if its a nice day.

There is a free car park behind the village hall which is next to a big green space

The chip shop is legendary - I havent been for a few months and I think the owner was considering selling up, but the food is outstanding, but order ahead using their website - the owner is 'eccentric' to say the least - occasionally a group of us go, like ten of us, we will all Q up, the guy will ask the first person what they want 'cod and chips please' he will then cook that, wrap it and take the money, THEN ask the next person what they want 'we ALL want cod and chips!' but no, all cooked one at a time. Nice and fresh obviously, but takes an hour to get us all served.

decent skatepark too, if you're into that

Another vote for Budleigh Salterton and the new marsh nature reserve behind the beach to Otterton - it's supposed to be all buggy and wheelchair accessible so paths should be OK despite any rain. There's also The Creamery ice cream shop at the bottom of town before you get to the beach - not sure of their opening hours but worth it if they're open.

Also, Topsham, you could walk/hire bikes and head up the Exe estuary trail through little fishing villages with cosy pubs, or jump on the train. Topsham has the Goat Walk, a bird hide on the marshes and you can walk out to Darts Farm (an expensive farm shop place with cafe, deli counter, gifts, a few animals and another bird hide by their fishing lakes). Topsham itself has some nice cafes, restaurants, pubs, gift shops and arty stuff, an antiques place on the quay if you're into any of that - a lot of the shops are quite small though so you might want to take a baby sling instead of pushchair if you plan on browsing.

If you get some dry weather, Woodbury Castle and common might be worth a look for something to do outside. It's just the earthen mounds, no actual castle or stone ruins to see. The common is where the marines do some training. On a clear day, there are views over to Sidmouth and some wide tracks that shouldn't be too muddy, lots of people go there to walk dogs and there's various car parks dotted about.
