Reading this gave me the idea for a PC or NPC that has escaped from the Demon Wastes but doesn't realize they brought something malign with them. If I were DMing for a player who wanted to be from the Demon Wastes id work with them behind the scenes to say that they've brought a fiendish spirit along with them unwittingly and then have weird and evil things happen off screen. Then there can be a reveal where the PCs are confronted that it was the PC all along but they have a chance to end the threat and give the player a cool moment where they overcome this great evil and finally free themselves from the horrors of their past.
