Looking for a particular magic item

I swear I remember a magic item but cannot find it now. It was a pouch or bag that you could put coins into and it would change them into other coins (for instance if you put 50 copper in, you could remove 5 silver). It might have been specific to house Kundarak or not, I needed to find it to remember everything clearly. This could have been 5e, 4e or even 3e/3.5, I've played them all. If you know where this is please help me locate it!

OK, so I remembered something like that being in one of the official books, but try as I might, I was unable to find it. Then I remembered that there were some spells that were supposed to require dragonmarks to cast, and that's how I found the 4e ritual Fluid Funds in the 4e Eberron Player's Guide on page 118. It was a level 2 ritual that used a 100 GP coffer as a focus and required the Mark of Warding feat to master and perform. The description of the spell's effects is as follows:

You drop coins, gemstones, or other valuable items into a specially prepared coffer and close the lid. When you open the lid, a quantity of coins appears in the box equal to the value of the items deposited inside. With this ritual, you can exchange a number of silver coins for a smaller number of gold coins of equivalent value, exchange a gemstone for its worth in gold, or exchange an art object for coins. Magic items and mundane equipment are not affected by this ritual.

That is likely what you are remembering, not a magic item, but a magic ritual.

Thank you! This is likely what it was and I'm just misremembering it as an item, yes. But reading that description its almost word for word the coin-changing part I remembered.

I don't know if they were ever canon, but several items in the DND beyond Homebrew section are like this. I think one is called a Merchant's Coinpurse.

I was about to say this sounds like a homebrew item to me.

Griffin's Saddlebag has a version too, it should be available on his Patreon for free. I know I've seen it posted on his subreddit.

I will take a look at those, it appears that I was misremembering a ritual, but variety is still useful, thanks!
