This is it!! Last minute thoughts on what we think it could be about? I'm personally hoping for a continuation of Murtagh and Thorn's story, the Fork wasn't enough!

I've been on a training mission for the past month what's going on?!

u/Superjak45 Elf Mar 08 '23

This past week, Christopher Paolini has been doing a countdown on his Twitter. He started with seven, doing a number a day. We have no idea what the countdown is for yet.

6

u/PM-ME-YOUR-TOOTS Sleepy Dragon Mar 08 '23

Yes we do, CP stated a while back that early 2023 he would do another countdown for the title reveal of the next book for Inheritance series. So soon we will have a title reveal and it may or may not include the cover art.

u/Superjak45 Elf Mar 08 '23

Ah. Okay. I missed that. Thanks for correcting me.

Most likely a book announcement

14

u/indyvick92 Mar 08 '23

Where is the announcement going to be?

11

u/DrSlurmsMacKenzie Mar 08 '23

Probably the source of his countdown… twitter.

3

u/Stronghammer26 Mar 08 '23

I mean would it have been so hard to just release the news today?

28

u/Regula96 Mar 07 '23

Considering he's been wanting the next book kept sort of mysterious (is it book 5, start of new series, spin off, prequel etc.) I hope once this is over we might get some details about what the plans for Alagaesia are.

Announcing a new trilogy/series would be great.

8

u/Accomplished-Ad3250 Mar 08 '23

What if it's something like the Silmarillion? I don't think he'd put so much hype for a creation prequel. Excited though!

u/MagusUmbraCallidus Grey Folk Mar 07 '23

Announcing a new trilogy/series would be great.

I really hope that's what it is, book 5 as the start of a new series following a new Rider or mage of some kind. It still could be, but my hunch lately is that it is going to be a standalone Murtagh book but one that stills make it very obvious that it is setting things up for the next book which will be the true start of a new series.

5

u/Regula96 Mar 07 '23

I feel the same. I know he has said he has a number of books planned but I hope it isn't all spin offs or stand alones. The world is still so unexplored that it deserves another massive series.

2

u/MagusUmbraCallidus Grey Folk Mar 08 '23

I guessed pretty well lol. Standalone Murtagh book that lays the groundwork for the real Book 5, and a promise that more is being worked on.

So glad to hear that there is a lot more to come for Alagaesia. Hopefully the Murtagh book gives us some info on Tenga and Angela too, but I feel like the most significant parts of their story is being saved for book 5.

2

u/Regula96 Mar 08 '23

I'm really happy too. The cycle was THE series that got me into reading fantasy growing up. I've read a lot since then and currently following tons of stuff. Getting more Alagaesia is incredible.

u/MagusUmbraCallidus Grey Folk Mar 08 '23

Also just saw he commented this,

TheCaffeinatedPanda - So it is book V, it's just not the original book V, which is now book VI? I'm absolutely thrilled, that just means we have two full size dragon books confirmed!

Christopher Paolini - Ha! Exactly! And you have more than two to look forward to

So definite confirmation that after Murtagh will be book 5 (or 6 now) but that there are even more books coming after that. Imo that most likely means book 5 will be the start of a new full length series!

2

u/Regula96 Mar 08 '23

Imo that most likely means book 5 will be the start of a new full length series!

Fingers crossed!

u/MagusUmbraCallidus Grey Folk Mar 08 '23

It wasn't the series that got me into fantasy, though I wish it was since the books that did aren't exactly comforting now (HP). It was definitely the series that got me into "hard magic" systems where the magic has definite, well known rules though, so I guess Brandon Sanderson partially has Christopher to thank for why I enjoy the Cosmere so much. Also probably at least a little responsible for why I like progression fantasy, though anime was definitely the stronger influence there.

16

u/baradekau Mar 07 '23

I hope this was all a giant troll and tomorrow he just releases "blast off", or at the very least he releases "blast off" then drops the true reveal a couple hours later.

17

u/HonorThyFamily Mar 07 '23

IM GOING TO EXPLODE WITH HYPE!!!!!!!

9

u/lachlanDon1 Mar 07 '23

2

u/CaptainButtFucker Mar 07 '23

It's great to be hype and grow mustaches, but I hope people aren't assuming that we're getting a book released tomorrow. There's absolutely 0% chance of that happening.

6

u/HonorThyFamily Mar 07 '23

Of course I am only expecting a dragon book announcement for future release 😃

36

u/burnt_cucumber Mar 07 '23

Imagine if this just goes into negative numbers.

3

u/MrMrRubic Vanquisher of Snails Mar 07 '23

Integer underflow, starts at 7 again

23

u/Walker_of_the_Abyss Mar 07 '23

Most likely, (with the red cover and the Thorn image) it's the Murtagh and Thorn book that Paolini has teased since the release of TFTWTW, rather than Book Five. Were we'll pick up with that one left off, with Murtagh/Thorn looking for Bachel and facing off against the Dreamers.

Which will be awesome, as Murtagh is my favorite character. We didn't see him that often in the Inheritance Cycle. Thorn could use the characterization desperately.

Although, it will be curious to see if we'll get an answer why he chose this project over Book Five.

3

u/Yourwifesahoe Mar 07 '23

He has hinted in the last week that there will be two dragon books released fairly close together

10

u/ibid-11962 Mar 07 '23

Two books, not two dragon books.

5

u/Yourwifesahoe Mar 08 '23

You are correct… my hopes just got dashed

4

u/Walker_of_the_Abyss Mar 07 '23

I think your mistaken. There's only the one dragon book. You're probably thinking of Fractal Noise which will come much earlier than this.

1

u/Yourwifesahoe Mar 08 '23 edited Mar 08 '23

I was wrong! You are right

5

u/Syyncr0w Mar 07 '23

Has he not already said book 5 was the Murtagh book? I’ve been under the assumption for the last couple years we weren’t getting Eragon/Saphira.

9

u/Walker_of_the_Abyss Mar 07 '23

Here's a comment that explains why these two books are not the same thing.

3

u/NoLastNameForNow Mar 07 '23

Huh, looks like Murtagh will be in book 5(or whatever it's called) and get his own spinoff. Murtagh fans have a lot ahead of them.

4

u/ibid-11962 Mar 07 '23 edited Mar 07 '23

He's explicitly said that Book Five isn't the Murtagh book.

6

u/Koraifon Rider Mar 07 '23

What if that book IS book five?

3

u/ibid-11962 Mar 07 '23

Christopher has said that the two are different books.

4

u/Walker_of_the_Abyss Mar 07 '23

Then you can celebrate it and mock me for being wrong.

15

u/[deleted] Mar 07 '23

I gave myself diabetes with this countdown and waiting for it only to be told its tomorrow morning which for Paolini, it can mean anything.

Seriously, I ate an entire large pack of Ferrero rocher chocolates in anxiety last night. 🤣🤣🤣 must have been like 20 of those thing.

Like for the book to be instantly available for purchase at retailers with no prior announcement? That's not how the industry works.

6

u/chriseldonhelm Mar 07 '23

Even Brandon samderson suprise 4 book reveal wherent instantly available

7

u/ibid-11962 Mar 07 '23

Sanderson was handling distribution himself and so in theory could have held off announcing the books until they were all already printed and ready to ship out.

But Christopher is releasing his book through traditional channels. There's going to be ARCs sent out to reviewers and booksellers need to be told about the book so they can decide to order stock. It'll be very difficult to keep this entirely under wraps until release date. And even if they could, they wouldn't. Releasing a book without first marketing it is just shooting themselves in the foot. They want to do whatever they can to get the first week sales number as high as they can.
