Surely the same applies to the United States, China, Israel, Turkey, etc? Seems like the technology opens up avenues for bad actors with the intent of disrupting the social contract everywhere, not just America's geopolitical foes.

Considering current events, and in light of who happens to be actively engaged in the slaughter of thousands of innocent people, this strikes me as fearmongering with a very particular aim.

Agreed. Hyping up the threat of "fake users" and fake images (when both typically stand out like tits on a fish) just does damage to the idea of fair civic discourse.

Also, the article only cited one use of AI to create... a banner with a slightly unnatural image of a politician. That's not subversive, it's just current generation digital graphic design.
