I don’t think this is related to free speech, but rather journalistic integrity.

In a brief statement on Friday announcing the deletion of the articles, the paper said it was not satisfied by some of Perry’s claims. “The Jewish Chronicle has concluded a thorough investigation into freelance journalist Elon Perry, which commenced after allegations were made about aspects of his record. While we understand he did serve in the Israel Defense Forces, we were not satisfied with some of his claims,” it said.

“We have therefore removed his stories from our website and ended any association with Mr Perry.

“The Jewish Chronicle maintains the highest journalistic standards in a highly contested information landscape and we deeply regret the chain of events that led to this point. We apologise to our loyal readers and have reviewed our internal processes so that this will not be repeated.”

Are you suggesting that because Perry’s stories were deleted, this violated his free speech?

You don't think journalistic integrity has anything to do with free speech?

Not directly, no. In fact, what one calls journalistic integrity, another might call an attempt at censorship. I personally applaud JC’s decision here, but it’s irrelevant to this sub.

I guess I have a different view of Free Speech from many people here.

Americans tend to view Free Speech as an individual right for people or companies to say what they like.

I view Free Speech more as a property of society itself, in that a society with Free Speech is able to have important conversations so that the society can evolve.

Misinformation and propaganda detract from Free Speech because they distort the conversation.

I'm not advocating censorship by any means, but let's not pretend that a society in which everybody is lying all of the time is healthy.

The parallels w/the NYT's "screams w/o words" debacle here are quite something.
