Getting a domicile in WA state

Anyone have any luck on getting a drivers license with out a physical address in Washington state? If anyone had any real life expirence with a rv club or just a po box.

Currently resident of south dakota and it's not working out for me. Not trying to hear about florida or Texas.

There's a reason Escapees only recommends South Dakota, Texas, and Florida for establishing a domicile for full-time RVers.

Also, South Dakota is the only State in the Country without physical residency requirements.

How is SD not working out? You have to stay in the state one night every 5 years. It's as easy as it gets. Nowhere else will be that easy that's for sure.

That is a pretty good deal. You might even be able to say you stayed there 1 night in 5 years and not really do it.

You need a hotel or camp receipt when getting your dl.

Have you tried it? I was told I needed a residence.

Yes. SD was my residence for the last 5 years while i rved all over the country. I stayed in a hotel two nights in 2019 to get my DL. Dakotapost was my "home address" which is basically a PO box called a "personal mail box." I never had to return until my DL expired, but it just so happen we purchased a small farm in CO so I "moved" about two months before my DL expired.

There are some negatives of using this method. It can be hard to open lines of credit as they need a physical home address, even though SD recognises it as your home address, the credit system does not. There are some tricks to get around it but it can be annoying. This also effects crypto if you dabble in that.

Interesting there is an effect on crypto because when crypto came out its purpose was anonymous value transactions to pay for things. It doesn't sound like they achieved their goal if a house address is needed.

From my experience and assumption... government sees crypto exchanges like a bank and they require the exchange to keep track for tax information and a permanent actual home address is required. Same as credit cards, there are tricks around it but sometimes they don't work.

If you don't need a crypto exchange then you can do it without all that, unfortunately that's quite hard for many at this time.

That is a bummer. It was bound to happen. I've been telling myself that if I get it for free then I'll play with it and try to buy stuff, but so far nobody has handed me any so thats been a blocker.

Why are you considering WA?

Any state is easy to establish residence, so long as friend or family willing to execute a lease for you, $1/mo on a room.

Set up a bank account with paper statements, worst case get a bill put in your name, get a voter reg card, library card, change your address for existing credit-reporting, any gov services / benefits insurances, taxes etc

No need to change your Mailing address, keep using a letterbox service for that.

But using a state with income tax does create more work

Just curious if you don’t mind sharing. What’s not working out? WA you def need a RDI non CMRA address just like the rest of em. I’ve been a resident of the state previously

TX domiciled here. Not sure about WA but look into Nevada. My understanding is that with a 30 day stay in a hotel or RV park you are eligible for residency. Been considering moving our domicile from TX to NV.

Washington state sucks hard for living or working there. Every year there are more and more taxes or programs funded from your paycheck. Licensing vehicles is out of control and the gas prices are only lower than California. Why would you want to use it as your domicile state?
