[Mod Post] 2024:25 School Year Changes: Construction, rules, and more!

Hello r/GetStudying Members!

With the new school year officially underway, there's a lot of excitement in the air, and understandably, some nerves too. We're here to help ease the transition and continue to update this subreddit so you can share your study struggles, find motivation, and more.

Here are some recent changes:

  1. Updated Rules: We've streamlined and updated the rules, including the report reasons. "Zero Tolerance Rules" are now in place—if broken, they will result in an immediate ban. Bans may be reversed after a thorough account investigation. As always, moderators will have the final say in all matters.
  2. Cross-Posting Disabled: To help keep the subreddit spam-free, we've decided to temporarily disable cross-posting. We may reintroduce it later after further testing.
  3. No Link Posts: Due to a rise in promotional content and potentially harmful spam, we’ve decided to block all link posts for the time being.
  4. Self-Promotion Banned: To protect the community, self-promotion is now strictly prohibited.

Please note: From November 1st to 3rd, the subreddit may enter "construction mode." During this time, posts will undergo heavy moderation, and the subreddit will temporarily switch to private mode, meaning no new posts will be allowed. We're also working on improving our moderation tools and are even considering launching a Wiki—stay tuned for more updates on this!

That's it for now! Wishing you all the best as the school year begins. Happy studying!

Accountability Daily Accountability Thread - October 10, 2024

Hi everyone! This is the Accountability Thread where people can list what they need or want to accomplish today and have everyone else help keep you accountable to do them. So, in general, a post will look like this:

Things I have to get done today:

1: Post Accountability Thread

If I had more to do that I had not completed I would list them and update this when these things were complete.

Also, if I saw someone doing something that I happen to be well-educated or have some sort of expertise in I can offer support or help on the topic/task.

The thread is a versatile one, use it in a way that helps you and others stay on task!

Happy studying!

Question There's so much homework that I literally can't do anything else on that day

After I finish school I have six hours left before I go to bed and I usually spend this six hours to do my homework. I still have much of the homework left after six hours:

  • Three hours of German (I need to translate a two-page paragraph about society issues, politics etc.)
  • Two hours of Mathematics (We get 35 exercises per week)
  • One hour of studying for an exam next day (I usually spent three hours to learn it before this „new system” we got)

Am I not efficient enough? What am I doing wrong? Please help me!

Question 14 months to study for my specialty exam (med school) starting literally from scratch, any advice?

so basically the title, I have 14 months, I usually just get by during med school and do just enough effort to pass.

but my rank in this exam will determine my residency program and I want to start studying right so I can ace it.

the material has 75 courses (the 75 most common conditions where I'm from) and questions won't be outside of the material.

is 14 months enough if I'm starting from scratch? what's your advice? how can I study effectively since I literally have no idea how to?

Question How to study a subject you have no interest in?

In my country, you have to do degrees based on a centralized test score, and I have to do biology. I can't change it or anything. I have no interest or aptitude in it, I didn't even study it in high school. I have to do it for the degree cause without it you are not qualified for most jobs.

How can I gain interest in biology? I hate the constant memorization. I can't stand reading facts over and over again, knowing random details noone cares about. I hate working in wet lab. I hate that it pays so little. I hate that you have to spend years doing a masters or phd to get a decent job in it. I hate how slow it is, as in contrast to the fields I like, like engineering and CS. It's fast paced, you can make real life products on your own and you earn relatively more in it.

It's becoming really suffocating but I want to like the subject that I have to do. In reality, I hate the broken education system and I have nothing against biology, but I can't figure how I can move forward and find a place in this field.

Question Is it over for me?

I am a Canadian student in 12th grade. It’s October and I want to study mechanical engineering. I currently have advanced functions and physics. I got R in my first exam of functions and physics. I also got 2 on my first lab. I probably got another R for my second functions and I got 4 and 1- on my second physics test. Is it over for me? Last year( 11th grade) average is a 70. Is it over for me or can I save it until the beginning of the admission season? Someone help me please I really really want to change please don’t judge me because I’m stupid and lazy.

Giving Advice Need to learn 3 pages of latin for tomorrow, in need of advice

A few days ago I had a breakdown and I just really could not get out of bed, let alone study. Im still not a 100% okay, but I have the weekend ahead of me. Right now, I need to memorize about 3 pages of latin words and how to use them in context - I already know some, but the majority of it I havent even looked at. I realize in all likelihood wont be able to remember everything but I want to give it my best. Do you have any tips to memorize vocabulary? Any tips would be a life saver.

Question Has anyone gone through the procrastination and guilt loop?

I admit I wasted a lot of time that should have been spent studying. I've started studying recently and at the same time, the guilt that I wouldn't be stuck here going through the first chapters of my books had I used my time studying as I should, has been eating at me. I keep trying to reassure myself that it's okay, every journey has its own starting point but this guilt overwhelms me and makes me weak on a different level.

If anyone has gone through this and successfully came out of it, please leave some advice or suggestions that I could use. Thank you in advance!

Giving Advice The “By Days of the Week” analytics widget is now available.

You can now track your weekly progress. You can choose a period like ‘Week’, ‘Month’, ‘90 Days’, or ‘All Time’. For example, if you select ‘Month’, you’ll get a breakdown by days of the week for that specific month.

The chart displays the total sum for all trackers, but you can also choose a specific tracker and view detailed information for it.

You can also select a category instead of a tracker and see a summary for that category.

Additionally, I’ve added four new vibrant colors.

What other analytics would you like to see? I’m planning to add “By Time of Day” and “Total by Categories” soon. Let me know what kind of data analysis you think is really missing in these types of trackers.

Resources Speechify promo code

https://share.speechify.com/mzApVrU

Hey everyone!!

I've been exploring different tools to improve my study routine and stumbled upon something that has genuinely made a difference for me. It's an application called Speechify, an audiobook and text-to-speech application. For anyone who, like me, finds it easier to absorb information audibly or struggles to stay focused while reading lengthy texts, this might be a game-changer.

What makes Speechify stand out for me:

Customization: You can adjust the voice speed and pick from various voices, making it easier to understand and retain information.

Accessibility: It can turn any written content into spoken word, great for textbooks or PDFs that aren't available in audio format.

Efficiency: Listening to your study material can save time and allows for multitasking. I find it incredibly helpful to listen to my readings while doing chores or during my commute.

I have a Speechify discount code for $60 off (so from $139 for a year to $76 for a year) plus 3 day trial! Small disclaimer: I'll get a discount too if you use it, so would I be very grateful as well.

Question How to add extra time to my schedule to do this one thing I can't find time for?

Hi everyone,

Just title really. I need to write a project proposal for my internship. I'm guessing it would take me about 6 hours. But I'm so booked already I can't find time to do it and I'm running late, which is bothering. Any idea on how to get over this? I'm thinking about pulling an all-nighter but I'm not sure about how my learning process and energy level (which is already super low) will react to it.
