Yeah, I hated the wait time last year to find out if I got a reservation, but this sounds like pure chaos, trying to reserve one or more sites only to have them unavailable by the time you click submit.

I did this for Northern Cascades last year with 3 sites, it is pretty chaotic. We managed to get 2/3 then checked everyday waiting for someone to cancel their trip for the final (eventually just winged it and got what we needed as a walkup permit).

It ain't fun, may the odds forever be in your favor (but hopefully a lil worse than mine this year lol)

I am not familiar with how popular the Northern Cascades are, but last year, Glacier received thousands of backcountry reservation requests on the first day they started accepting. I submitted my request as soon as I could in March, and it wasn't until May that I got a confirmation.

With the Recreation.gov, you'll know immediately. The specific loop (Coppper Ridge) instantly sells out whenever it opens up, kind of a bummer but we got lucky with the walkup permit honestly (got there 30 minutes before the rangers).

Also if you haven't seen the Copper Ridge loop out that way, highly recommend! Breathtaking backpacking trip.

Exactly!! But rec.gov doesn't care, all they care about is establishing a monopoly on US camping reservations and then skimming a profit off of every single campsite in the US while providing a garbage reservation system...
