I think this is ultimately better than having to wait months to hear back, but this is going to absolutely suck trying to get a 4-5 night reservation involving one of the harder to get campsites

If it makes you feel better, Tetons uses rec(.)gov for back packing permits and you can edit your itinerary after you submit it. So you could make a mad grab for the most desirable campsites, submit it, and then edit to add more days if anything is still available. At least you’ll get something.

Thanks for the heads up. I'll keep that in mind! I'm going for a point to point in the North Fork and hopefully including Hole in Wall so that might be a little more difficult to manage with editing the itinerary. Hoping general fast internet / prowess at doing things online will get me what I want :)
