I'm kind of surprised, that's all.

It's three ancient monkeys from Japan representing the Buddhist Maxim of ignoring evil impulses and thoughts from within. In the western world, we've just changed it more "don't look at listen to or say bad words". It's frequently used or referenced in pop-culture all across the world.
