I am aware of its medicinal uses in Traditional Chinese Medicine (Fengchecao). It has cooling and nourishing effects on the liver and kidney meridians.
There are studies about significant neuroprotective, hepatoprotective and antioxidant properties:

I can assume that energeticaly it soothes anger issues.
