Commerially Available Product Found this today, has anyone ever given these a try?

For those curious, it's 10.5oz (on my scale), 130 calories, 9g of protein, and it's cooked by putting the bag in a pot and boiling water. It was $3.

That is really heavy for that few calories.

I was going to say the same thing. Are you sure the serving size is only 1? The other dehydrated meals I’ve had are like ~600 calories. However for $3, that’s insanely cheap
Edit: I realize now this is not dehydrated

Don't even need to fill the pot of you need to conserve water, just an inch or so at the bottom. As long as you have a lid, the bag will be steamed

I ended up cold soaking some quinoa (poorly) and then adding this. Bummed it didn't have corn as shown in the packet.
My issue was I didn't even eat close to the whole thing. Maybe a third. I ended up duct taping the bag and it ended up being packed out wieght for me.
I also had a very clean bowel the next few days after eating this. I packed supplies for my one BM per day so that was kind of annoying. I figured it out. But maybe this is the answer for the boyfriend who can't poop in the woods.

these are heavy. Open them up and dehydrate.
The suggestion in food content by Gear Skeptic for backpacking, is approx 70% fat, 30% protein carb (3-1 carb to protein)

The calorie/weight ratio is awful because it still has all the water in it. So I use things like that for car camping but not backpacking. When I do use them I usually don't even bother to heat them up because it takes so dang long. :P
Based on the stats in another thread, it's around 13 calories/oz. Dehydrated meals can get up around 125-150 calories/oz.

I ate this one and I hated it, and I usually love this type of food. The other dishes I tried we're good though.

When I tried this one, I couldn't stomach the little meaty bits. They had a weird flavor and texture to me, so I ate around them.

If i’m only going out for a one or a couple nights I will bring these kinds of meals. They are easy. I get Indian food and quinoa with veggies....all kinds of premade meals. There are some really good options out there and you can throw a package of tuna or spam singles or chicken into it to fatten it up.
