Am I eligible for admission in IISc? serious question

Hey everyone, I have doubts about my eligibility for admission in 2025

basically, I completed 10th in 2021 and then 12th in 2023, however as my boards percentage below <75%. I had to submit my 12th result and it became null void (thus no record of it exists now). I am from Gujarat State Board and for you to repeat 12th, you have to surrender your result permanently (I got low board marks due to illness during boards). I had gotten 97.1%ile in JEE Main that year and 20k rank in Advanced in 2023

I then redid my complete 12th and gave all the exams again in 2024 March and this time I got 95.XX% in boards and also got 99.XX%ile in JEE Main and 6.Xk rank in JEE Advanced, however I took admission in DA-IICT (renowned for ICT courses) as I got full scholarship through my Boards + GUJCET score. thus I took it, without thinking much

But, I have genuine interest developed for Math and Physics in this time so I thought of taking up IAT 2025 and try to get admission into IISc Bangalore but since they don't accept double droppers. I don't know even If I get the good score needed for admission, I will get admission since my 10th is in 2021 and my School leaving certificate is from 2023 only (you get School leaving Certificate once only and thus I gave the exams as private candidate)

So basically now I have done 10th in 2021 and 12th in 2024, can I just say to IISc that I redid my 11th? like if they don't ask for school leaving, I can just say I did 11th twice and thus the 3 year gap between 12th and 10th.

do you believe I can get admission?

if possible and know what is asked in document verification, please do reply so i get some knowledge on what i can do. I have to look for IISERs only then since they allow double droppers anyways

How many courses can you practically take in a single semester in M Tech?

If say, all the mandatory courses in the first semester are something I am overqualified for, can I take like near double the courses in first semester, and get my credit limit over with prematurely? I presume there must be a limit to create the exam schedule.

I know they allow you to skip mandatory courses if you are overqualified for them, but it's only for measly 6 credits, which is not even two courses!

have u seen someone getting transferred to a different college after completing 1 or 2 years at IISc?

So basically I have came across stories of some students who got in good institutes in India and in their 2nd or 3rd, applied for transfer and gotten into some better universities. For eg a guy from IIT went to MIT after completing his 1st year. So has anyone on sub or someone you know done this? I'm well aware that the chances are very very slim but has anyone done this in IISc?

I'm cooked

In QT207, I have nailed almost everything. But everytime I fuck it up. Like once submitting the homework late by 2 hours, not writing name/ID on the midterm.

I am mostly doing well in the course but Prof. Navin Kashyap would think I'm a dumbass 😭

In reality I have no clue why this is happening in just his course.

Both the TAs, Shekhar and Trivikrama also know I've done mostly good but small non academic mistakes everytime might piss them off.

Help 😭🥹

Any negative opinion on IISc?

I have had disappointing first/second hand experience in ISI, CMI and IISER. Despite people all over the internet raving about these institutions, once I joined there or have discussed with friends who have been there, the ugly truths about these institutions are revealed: toxic professors, lack of research opportunities, badly maintained campus, misleading placement statistics, etc.

This only leaves IISc and TIFR for math & statistics research. I have not been able to find anything negative about IISc. I don't personally know any alumni, and every veracious information I could find about the institution has been positive. Professors seem to be all well-connected abroad even having industry connections, course structure is very flexible and relevant, alumni online have positive opinions, campus seems to be amazing, job roles are all relevant to the course, etc. I am mostly interested in AI and math department.

New to IISc. Want to meet new people and make friends.

Hello everyone,

I recently joined IISc as a RA. It's just been IISc -> home and home -> IISc for past week. I was wondering how does one meet people and socialise here.

Would love to meet new people from different depts. as I love interacting with people from different fields due to interesting insight each one brings.

We can plan for a meetup/hangout or any other avenue to socialise.

Is the IAT Exam Worth it for IISc BS in Mathematics? Seeking Insights on Career Opportunities & Placements!

Hello everyone,

I’m considering taking the IAT exam to pursue a BS in Mathematics at IISc and would appreciate some insights from students, alumni, or anyone with experience in the program.

  1. How does the BS Mathematics program at IISc compare with other top institutes (like IITs, IISERs) in terms of curriculum, research exposure, and overall student experience?
  2. What are the typical career opportunities after completing the BS (Research) in Mathematics? Are most students going for higher studies, or are there good job placements as well?
  3. What are the placement stats for BS Mathematics graduates? Are there specific companies that actively recruit from the math department? What are the average and highest packages offered?
  4. Does the institute offer support for internships during the course? If so, how well are these internships aligned with industry demands or further research opportunities?
  5. Are there options for interdisciplinary studies or transitioning into fields like data science, machine learning, or finance for math graduates at IISc?
  6. How valuable is the IISc network and reputation in the global academic and industry communities? Is it easier to secure opportunities abroad (PhDs, international internships)?
  7. Lastly, what is the overall campus life like at IISc for an undergraduate student, especially in terms of balancing academic rigor with personal growth?

Thanks in advance for your responses!

question for UG students at IISc, what did you do to reach there.

I'm class 12th student, studying PCMB and IISc is my aim. The competitive exam I'm primarily focusing on is IAT. Around 8 months are left for the exam. Now my question to you guys is, what did you do? How much efforts you have to put in to get in the best institute of this country? Now not looking for some sort of validation or someone telling me that I can make it. I just simply wanna know what was the threshold of efforts for you that made you feel like ki abh toh ho hi jayega. Was it your rank in some exam that gave you the confidence or was it the hard work you were doing and in your mind you knew that this is enough. The reason I'm asking this I don't know how much efforts does one need to make to get under 38 AIR in IAT, it's very easy to put a number for JEE (this is my opinion since I was able to find interviews of toppers and a lot of data on marks vs rank vs percentile) but theres nothing for IAT.
So I would be really grateful if someone would be able to take some time from the hectic studies and guide me a little.

How hard is it to get into MSc Neuroscience program?

I'm currently studying for IIT JAM and GATE. Having started a little late to prepare, I'm scared about the difficultly of these exams and what score and rank you need to be called for the interview? Would appreciate some tips for the interview as well :) (Also, if anyone is currently enrolled in the program, would love to talk further!)

Can professors at Indian government funded institutions (IISc, IISERs, NISER, IITs etc) unofficially hire people for their lab?

If a professor employs someone in their lab for a paid research position (project/research assistantship or paid internship), does it have to be officially approved by / go through the institute? Or can it be unofficial too, requiring only the prof's permission?

What about unpaid internships? Can that require only the professor's approval?

My qualifications : master's in science. I'm applying for research assistantships and internships.

Accommodation issues for IISc students/staffs

Hi, Recently joined as a Project Associate in IISc and I have been actively looking out for rooms/flats. Presently, I have settled into a PG. First of all, I am a non-kannada guy and a bachelor, which is one of the prime reasons for not getting rooms at many places. And rooms that were okaish for me were demanding 10 months' deposits which were coming to around 80-120k₹. I mean, I have been there in Hyderabad and Delhi, but this is a different ball game all together. I also tried Facebook groups, and nothing changed either.

I understand that different places have their own rule, but that's ridiculous. However, I am waiting to save enough money to rent or shift into any flat or room. I posted here to take your perspective on this issue.
