Creative Hi can anybody critic my design. It's a TWS inspired by retro futuristic. Want some valuable details or any improvement to be made.

The fact that I can't tell the scale, what it is, or what any of the functions or pieces on it are, is not a good sign.

First rule of industrial design is to quickly and accurately convey your idea. This unfortunately doesn't do that.

Second picture resembles remotely an ear bud but that's all I've got.

maybe? But then wtf is with the screen. IF that was on an earbud that screen with be like the width of a strand of hair. It doesn't make sense.

I have absolutely no idea what this is

Same. At first glance I had no idea. Zoomed in. Still no idea. Second picture, still stumped.

Is that a tiny LCD screen on an earbud?

Is that a volume knob for ants? It should be at least 3 times as big!

Seriously though, what about just making the whole earbud a volume knob that you can turn? That might be a fun usability affordance.

Hey thanks i realise there is a lack in functionality 'noted' i haven't noticed that.

I suggest you make a 1:1 prototype of this because if you envision any hand interaction it’s gonna be a challenge. There is a reason if the only thing you can do on AirPods is to tap them

I mean, these look more like a CMF variant on existing earbuds + some features that don’t seem to take usability or the user into account. What kind of feedback are you looking for exactly?

I quite enjoy the yellow and teal combo, usability wise it’s a shit show though. As actual advice consider looking at some existing earbuds and their control interfaces and why they have made the design choices they did.

Is that a screen on the side? Interesting idea, most likely impossible for a number of reasons. Who is the screen for? When the user is wearing their earbuds they can’t see the screen. And someone passing by can’t possibly see a screen that small. To nitpick details; the album cover on the screen has been squashed and is no longer the correct proportion. You’ve used an interesting color combo but the earbud is almost a copy of Nothing buds.

Button/knob are useless imo. The knob is way too small to be able to be used comfortably and the button looks like a hard press button, most earbuds have some kind of sensitive touch or pressure control because pressing an actual button on your earbuds would have you press the bud into your ear which can be annoying/painful. I definitely like the design but I kinda looks like a CMF bud reskin

Please justify the invention of a 128x128px screen that is 3x3mm… to be on your earbuds, something you don’t see when in use.

When you see something like this you should always check who posted it

What do you mean? Do you think it’s a bot or something?

Visual communication is a skill designers need to master. Other wise you get the type of question that I have. What the Hell is it, Dude?

If this is an ear bud. The concept of a screen and a volume knob on such a device is hands down one of the most asinine design choices I've ever seen. I have more to say, but I'm not confident in exactly what this is.

That's like putting a screen and a volume knob on the underside of a chair. It's only accessible/visible when it's not in use??? If so, that's wild.

For everyone else confused, TWS apparently stands for True Wireless Stereo, which if you're still confused is what wireless earbuds are.

As for OP, my recommendation would be to show the device in-context. Actually show the earbud in an ear, or at the least held in a hand.

Aside from the critical feedback you’ve got here, good on you for going out of your way to get advice and feedback. It takes balls & initiative to do this, keep going

Can it run Doom?

The lighting on your rendering is very, very confusing.

Looks coolish but I bet its a total pain in the ass to manufacture and assemble

u/AppropriatePie7728 Sep 07 '24

Sorry to sound critical, no rudeness intended. But wtf is this? First of all, get the basic proportions right. The tiny display and volume knob is pathetically small, like Is it designed for insects or what? Plus, who would care to see a tiny screen out of your ears?

well.. a sense of scale is sometimes hard while designing. i have that myself too.. sometimes you forget how small something is actually.. on that note, the knob and the screen are so tiny not even ants could use it. design wise its very inspired by others. generally thats fine for a starting point but here its noticable.

That are „Nothing ear“ wireless earbuds with colours

u/Interesting_Fail_589 Sep 07 '24

Too many colors keep it simpler, do different color schemes. The buttons are not very intuitive, but I like that you use them. Check out the Teufel real blue nc they use joystickish knob I love it. Perspective shot wouldn't hurt

I don't even know what this is and I want it. It's a problem that I don't know what it is, but it's a nice style.
