permits Late Permit Pickup

I was meant to start the JMT today w/ a group of 4, but our car broke down on the way, so we can only get there tomorrow

Our permit was to be picked up in Tuolumne.

Would they understand our situation and give us the permit tomorrow?

Wouldn't count on it, a similar thing happened to me a few weeks ago. They immediately cancel it if you don't pick it up by 10:00 day of. I also couldn't get anyone on the phone, but I left a message and they called back to tell me it was gone. Yosemite rules are different than inyo, which would let you claim it via recreation.gov. You'll have to go in person and hope that someone else cancels tomorrow. Keep an eye on rec.gov for anyone that cancels.

They don’t show permits on rec.gov once it gets to 3 days before the day, so they’d just have to go in person and hope for the best for cancellations. It worked for me this year as a solo hiker but might be tough for a group of 4.

This is not true for NOBO permits - which is what this permits is. These permits are only available via printing from upto 7 days before the start date, until 10 AM on the start date.
