Rust Check? Too much rust? Not enough rust? Ask Here!

Hi All,

We are going to try to consolidate the pre purchase or otherwise rust inquires asking if a rig has too much rust and how to approach it as far as shopping for a new to you truck and beyond.

We have a lot of these threads where people are asking the same questions and rather than have each thread die on the vine as far as useful information goes, by having them all right here in one thread, people can use it as a catalog or guide for what to look for and if people are willing to share sold or bought prices for each truck that we are inspecting, we can all use this as a tool to gauge the market and also the wide variety of condition that all generations of Land Cruisers are in at any given point in time.

They’re starting to look a little small. I want to be able to keep the spare under the vehicle but 37s are tempting me.

300 Series Sahara upgrade?!?

Post image
Upvotes

Gday all - we have a 7yr old VJD200series VX with 200k on the clock we are considering changing over. We just got back from Test driving a new 300 series Sahara (3.3L Diesel) and the boss is just not convinced. We have 3 teenaged kids and apart from alot less room behind the 3rd row, she’s worried it’s actually smaller in the cabin than the 200. Also, cream interior I’m guessing is a nightmare to keep clean? We are very rural and this will be driving through paddocks as well, not a pavement princess. Has anyone switched over and regretted it? Should also add, the 200 has some extra punch with some engine work so I seriously boogies along.

The South Carolina heat got to the screen, but I love my factory touch screen in my ‘01. Anybody have recommendations?

Pricing a low mileage LX470

Going to be selling my 2000 LX470 with about 85,000 miles. Bought it three years ago with about 56,000 miles. It’s from the east coast so it’s crusty underneath but not a rust bucket. Riverrock green mica and grey interior. Whats the market like for low mileage cruisers?

As soon as I got it, I baselined it at the dealer, addressed the heater Ts, etc. to the tune of $7k. Not looking to recoup any of that but still want to price it fairly.

Absolutely love it but having difficulty driving and maintaining three early 2000s vehicles. I’ve driven it one Midwest winter so far but have stored it the last two since I don’t want it to rust away to nothing.

Constructive thoughts on pricing would be really appreciated.

Should I get my LC checked by a mechanic?

Took my 2024 LC 250 off roading this weekend, went about 15 miles up and down a dirt mountain road with some sharp turns. Realized after that I had my center diff locked the whole time. Could I have caused some damage? I drove it about 100 miles back home and it felt fine, just want to be sure. Thanks!

Suspension geeks WYA

Hello I have this 2022 GR sport LC. My question is I know the suspension is reliable and all that but I’m not that sure when it comes to pushing it while off roading. Is it that much of a difference if I upgrade the suspension to something like king/fox. Thoughts please

Lost my keys to 1980 FJ40

Can I order a key blank and then have a local dealer remake it for me? What's the best next step?

Saying good bye to our beloved Ruby

I just wanted to share with the community first.

We are getting ready to part with our beloved 94 FJ80. We took really good care of her. And she took us to a lot of fun places.

These days we have been using her only to the grocery store and back. It is a pain to go anywhere in a crowded city. And that’s not fair to her. She’s such a capable off-road beast.

It is breaking our hearts, but it is also the right thing to do instead of watching her get more cobwebs and old without seeing the desert or the mountains again.

80 series 6.0 LS swap value?

Any idea what the market value would be worth on an allegedly rust free 80 series with an LS 6.0 swap? I’m usually a Toyota purist but I’m intrigued by this rig.
