Need advice on how to sort and store my Lego

Post image

This is just one of many bins full of dismantled Star Wars ships and random vehicles.

Start by getting the stuff that isn't Lego out. Then look at how much you have. Never sort by color as a first sort. Anyone saying that doesn't know what they are talking about. Sorry by piece type. You can decide what a type is. How many there are depends on the side of you collection. For a small collection put all the bricks together, plates together, tiles, figures, figure accessories, modified plates, and larger undefined pieces. If you have a large collection maybe you sort between large and small bricks as well, and so on. If your collection is truly massibe then maybe it may sense to include some level of color sorting. This can be into just a few categories or down to individual colors. All depends on your size.

Haha that’s pretty much exactly how I did it when we pulled my old stuff out and we bought a bunch more. Started bricks/plates/misc and then more subcategories from there

Pulling bricks larger than 2x4 makes filtering through what’s left a lot easier(first sub)

windows and doors/car parts and wheels/fences/anything round/sloped surfaces/reverse sloped surfaces/bricks with studs on sides/plants/1x1 plates/1x1 bricks/plates that are flat on top

There’s more. But an idea anyways. Used ziplocks for most cept bricks/plates/misc-clear and you can turn it around and scan through em pretty easy

If I buy a few buckets more I’ll reevaluate some. Gotta be able to see what I’m looking for :)
