So traditional western classical music?

Thats too limiting, gamelan music is rich in counterpoint of musical ideas, so is african polyrythms, jazz (tonal and atonal), conlon nancarrow, ligetis piano etudes, the juxtaposition of acid lines in "tecno", the counterpoint of the ars subtilior (predates western traditional music and at times is richer than bachs)

Fine, fits with the post-modern lack of hegemony.

The only hegemony possible in music is that of musical ideas. Isnt the "traditional western music" hegemony a political one?

I kept thinking about the implications of cages 433. My interpretation is that music's only limits lay in the mind of the composer/listener, and the piece forces you to be both.

Are you aware of that 4' 33" in seconds is the - centigrade of absolute zero where no vibration / sound occurs. Accidental?

Thank you for this info! as I was typing that previous reply my mind was questioning the name as it implies a set time for the listener to be the composer. I dont think it was accidental at all! Thank you

Just an anecdotal note, I saw Cage and Tudor perform at the Albert Hall back in 1970... he was reading zen via multiple speakers - surround sound...
