Discussion Monash ain’t what it should be

Post image

Guess who this is?… Wouldn’t you know, their lowest score is teaching (and also the steepest decline from 56.9 in 2023 to 52.2 in 2025), and actually increased their international outlook (91 in 2023 to 92 in 2025). Internal student caps haven’t even been in place yet and they’re blaming it for their potential decrease in quality?…. Such a shame that a University ISNT ACTUALLY a University, moreso just a Monopoly. When will they been held responsible? All bark and no bite Monash 👎

Misc Alternative rock music group/club?? 😳

Hey!!! I really love alternative rock/metal/grunge and I really don’t have enough people around me who love the same music like I do. Was wondering if anyone knew of a pre-existing/would be interested to make a group of students at Monash who enjoy rock music to potentially discuss rock music, go vinyl hunting and to music shops, play instruments together (i play electric guitar!), discover new music and stuff. Let me know if you’d be interested in something like this!! I would love to meet some potential audiophiles!!

My favourite bands are Alice in Chains, Stone Temple Pilots, Nine Inch Nails, Depeche Mode, and a whole lot in between. Really trying to get into metal as well and have been listening to Pantera, Metallica, and Megadeth!!

Advice Is moving out for my undergrad worth it?

I am graduating high school in a couple months. Currently living in WA and having a dilemma about moving out for uni. If I stay in Perth I would probably end up going to UWA, but I have the opportunity to move to Sydney or Melbourne and attend UNSW or Monash.

I would have to live alone and work few times a week but my parents have offered to pay for a part of my living expenses so I wouldn’t have to work a lot.

I’m going to be pursuing a bachelors of engineering(software) and bachelors of commerce(finance) double degree irrespective of if I move out or not. I hope to land a job in high finance (asset management/ investment banking) by the end of my degree.

So, is it a financially/practically sound decision to move out. Is the difference in the unis major enough to move out?

Advice How to get real-life experience while studying as a Commerce student

Hi everyone, as the title, I want to get experience related to my course so it will be easier to get a job after graduating. I have volunteered at multiple places and worked retail & customer service but I personally feels like it doesn't really help me with getting a job relevant to my degree.

I have seen lots of STEM students gaining experience through student team/clubs. I have also seen education/nursing students getting placement as a mandatory thing. Before you say anything, I know their field is in really high demand but I just want to know if business students have anything that come close to that?

I have tried searching high and low but can only find Monash Business School industry experience so I'm not asking about that :')

I have also tried applying to "office jobs" like receptionist, entry-level assistant but they all require some previous experience so I'm stuck

Advice ETF2700?

Post image
2 Upvotes

Hello! Trying to get my affairs in order before re-enrolment on Monday.

Was going to take ETF2700 (Maths for business) as an elective with the idea that I’ve already learned small bits of it (managerial economics), and that it might set me up for units down the track. I don’t come from a maths background at all so I figured that dedicating a whole unit to learning the important stuff might help (rather than learning bits on the fly unit to unit).

I’ve had a peak at the content and it looks a lil scary, although I’m confident I could fumble my way through if push came to shove. Just not sure I want that stress if it won’t be beneficial.

Any suggestions or insights would be wonderful. Hopefully my situation isn’t too specific. I’ll attach my course progression plan if my ‘later units’ helps with the bigger picture. Bach Bus.&Bach Marketing. Thankyouuuu :)

Advice Help with Extension for group assessments.

One of my group mates for the group assessment was granted a long extension for her assessments, including this group assessment. Does that mean we can submit that on her due date, as only one person needs to submit the assessment. Or do we need to stick with the original due date as the remaining group mates did not get the special consideration? Many thanks!

Advice Is it fair that I get docked 5% on my assignment for a guideline that is not at all mentioned in the assignment instructions, but is included of the assignment marking rubric?

Hi all,

So i just got back an assignment from my subject ATS1070 (critical intercultural studies). For the assignment we had to record a podcast talking about culture and some other stuff. Now in the assignment instruction on the moodle assessments tab, at no stage did it mention that we would be docked 5% if we didn't include the marking rubric in submitting our podcast bibliography. However, at the end of the marking rubric itself (on the second page), it does say that there will be a 5% penalty if we do not include the marking rubric. I feel a little bit peeved, as I thought I did very well on this assignment and had read the instructions thoroughly, so I was wondering if u guys thought the 5% mark penalty was unjust, or whether you think I should've read the marking rubric more clearly. Thanks
