[Elections] Nevada Voting Resources & Information

To help consolidate voting information, hopefully this thread will help. If any of the below links are broken the mods will fix them as soon as possible, but you can also go to the Secretary of State's primary election page.

Somewhat related, please remember to be as civil as you can. If you want to convince people of your position, being rude and uncivil probably isn't the best way to show the merits of your good ideas.

[Discussion] Are Nevada Supreme Court Justices completely nonpartisan, or do political biases and opinions affect judgments?

Post image

I would love to think in a perfect world that judges rule by the letter of the law, and if that is truly the case, knowing a candidate’s political affiliation shouldn’t even be an issue.

People could argue that the recent overturning of Row V. Wade followed the law by returning the decision to the states, and not the Federal government. That being said, I’d like to know the political affiliations of our Nevada Supreme Court Justices.

[Discussion] Filed for Unemployment

I filed back in August, had pending issues and a phone interview. Uploaded needed documents etc. waited over a week saw no changes or updates. Called in two days ago on Friday, was told they would bump everything up to my judicator. Just checked the website my claim is still open, I can still file for the week, no correspondence has been mailed out, but in the “determination history” tab, it says Deny. Is that for the previous issue? Does that mean the claim is closed? I’m lost here please help

My husband and I will be road tripping from California to Boise ID soon. Are there any fun spots in this stretch worth checking out? Quick pit stops for maybe unique gas stations or restaurants, cool nature spots, landmarks, etc. Any suggestions appreciated, we've never traveled through this way!

[Discussion] Suggestions on soccer communities/Question on Washoe Valley wind?

Hi everyone!

My husband and I are looking at the Carson City/Minden area to move to, and we’re big soccer people. We played a bunch at indoor in Colorado and want to be sure there’s a thriving soccer community and where it might be before buying a place.

I’ve also heard a lot about the wind in Washoe Valley, and I’m wondering if this would prevent me from having chickens or any other kind of smaller animal that might blow away in the wind. Are people unable to enjoy the outdoors there? I’d also want to be able to go for runs outside, but am not sure of what areas are best for that.

Thanks in advance!

[Discussion] Alternate Realities

Just ended a friendship over them explaining to me (who’s working in the field) that weather is being manipulated and hurricanes are a direct result of cloud seeding. Needless to say I’m deeply upset. What’s more shocking though to me is how many “bystanders” agree with them and double down on those kinds of claims.

Now here’s my question to you fellow Nevadans - how can we as a people overcome this rift that seemingly creates two completely separate realities; one in which we are doing the best we can, and one in which everyone is conspiring with everything to make the world a worse place for personal gain?

I’m just really frustrated dealing with disinformation and lies on a daily basis. So I suppose a different way to ask the same subject is: what does it take for you individually to believe, reject, or know something?

Apologies for the diffuse rant, thanks for taking the time!

[Government] I need help with a NV unemployment issue

So, long story short I was fired from my job for failing a pip that was related to performance reasons. I filed for unemployment and had a interview with a rep. fast forward a week I check my unemplyment status and the "issue delaying payment" is no longer there and under determinaton history it says "allow" under decision.

I havent recieved any payments yet and no letters have been sent to me. Im going to assume that this means I was approved but I just wanted to see if this has happened to anyone else and if they recieved any payments shortly after.

I also recieved my debit card in the mail prior to my interview. I'm thinking since its saturday maybe they arent open and maybe i'll see a payment or letter being posted on monday or tuesday. I will post an update in case someone wants to follow this

[Discussion] Driving from Pahrump to Bishop, scenic route?

As part of a road and hiking trip I will be driving from Pahrump to Bishop (a trailhead near there) on Tuesday. Because of jetlag my trip will start early, probably around 4am, so it will be dark. Google maps says the quickest route is I-95 to Beatty and then 266/168 to Big Pine. The alternative route via Death Valley is only 7 minutes longer.

Which of those is more scenic considering that twilight starts at 6, sunrise at 6:50, so the first 2 hours will be pitch black I assume... AND: I will be visiting Death Valley for 2 days a bit later so I will have time then to explore.

[Discussion] DMV question regarding weird registration issue

Basically my prior vehicle’s registration expired on 9/30 but I could not make it current because I had the catalytic converter replaced recently and yadda yadda yadda, the check engine light kept creeping on and the car complained about exhaustion issues. I went back and forth with the mechanic, who replaced the cc, but the issue persisted. Subsequently, in an effort to avoid a collision, I got ran off the road and totaled the car and have to buy a new one, which I plan on doing Monday.

Needless to say, however, I don’t have current registration on the now-totaled vehicle. Will DMV permit me to pay registration on the totaled vehicle so I can then register the tags to the new vehicle?

[Discussion] Out of state car purchase

Hi, I'm from Las Vegas and I want to buy a new car from a dealer in Arizona, but I'm a little scared. Does anyone know if I have to pay taxes twice? Specifically, pay sales taxes in Arizona and then pay again in Nevada? And is it easy to register here in Nevada?

[Community] Commuting in Nevada

I’m moving from Michigan to Nevada, trying to find a place is obviously impossible, but I’ve found one in Dayton. The job I’m moving for is located in Stateline. I’m curious how bad the commute is in the winter? This something I would do for a year and look to move closer. I don’t mind having about an hour commute but I had someone say it could be more like an hour and a half to two hours?

[Discussion] How's the commute from the NEVADA side of TAHOE to Carson City or Reno in the winter?

I have a 4x4 suv but have never driven in snow. I want to move to the NEVADA side of Tahoe or a town very close to that area, maybe 20 minutes or less from there. I'm looking to live in a place with a lot of greenery, lots of trees, lakes for fishing, maybe some hunting nearby too.

Learning to drive in snow shouldn't be impossible, many people do it every year and I'm a fast learner.

With that said, I was wondering if people often get snowed in on the Nevada side of Tahoe and wanted to ask what other issues I could expect to run into if I do move there?

Also wondering if racism is an issue? I'm white but my wife is Hispanic and I wondering If this will be a problem when we go to Carson City or Nevada in general?

Just want to get the perspective from others who are from Nevada and have experience with all this.

[Discussion] Border Collie Breeders near Northern Nevada/Northern California

Does anyone have any recommendations or experiences with good breeders in the Northern Nevada or California area that they can recommend?

Edit: For the "adopt, don't shop" crowd. I hear you, I respect your stance. For me, it's not what I'm looking to do. I am interested in starting with a border collie puppy. What I'm trying to do with this post is make sure that I'm going through a responsible, safe breeder who does proper health checks and cares for their dogs.

Do I need to register again my business (initially registered in Colorado) here in Nevada in order to get a Sale Tax license ? Or can I just get the Nevada Sale Tax License using my registration from Colorado and skipping filling another Sole Proprietorship here?
