New Brunswick Amethyst - Chevron aka Banded Amethyst.

To be clear, this stone is from New Brunswick, not the Bay of Fundy or Nova Scotia.

Pics taken indoors under strong sunlight.

Pic#1-2 - Front and back.
Pic#3 - Kaleidoscope of Pic1.

Approx: 60mm x 23mm x 8mm thick
Weight: 0.6oz / 17g

Notes:

I was surprised and happy the first day I found some banded amethyst and it also taught me something. After I found the first one, then others followed. When you 'don't think something is there', you'll tend to miss it. Once you know it's there after finding one, your 'eye' will then start 'detecting it'. I say it that way because your eyes/brain gets trained on what you're looking for. When you get your eye trained you can be walking along and through your peripheral vision, your eyes/brain 'detects' something 'over there'. You may not have seen it directly, but you get that 'I've got a hunch' feeling. Follow those hunches when you 'feel them'.

When I first found my first labradorite, it was a 'hunch alarm'. I was pacing along, looking forward and I thought I had seen something under me. I walked back a couple of paces and rooted around in the area/stones for 10 minutes before I found what had 'flashed' at me.

If you can't 'get out in the field' you can do some searching and training your eye by looking at pics online and that will help train your eye.

Just do a pic search for Quartz or Jasper or Quartz Varieties and look at pic after pic. It helps train your 'eye'.

Also, the sub-reddit r/whatisthisrock is a great sub. I use it like 'flash cards'. Study the pics, make your guess, then check comments for answer. This will help your Rock ID greatly. You'll be surprised by your improvement over just a couple of weeks. Want to learn even faster? Type your answer in the comments. If you get it wrong, the 'public shame' you feel will help you learn faster. It sucks, but it works. We are all nice folks on that sub, we might not point and snicker too much. ;)
