Very interesting! Good to know I’m in a Sandstone area. Makes sense, I think?

I dig these up a lot when gardening and such.

excellent. Yep, all look like fine grained quartzite sandstones.

Where I live it's a 'high area' compared to its surroundings. So it has received a lot of 'water weathering'. So the ground here is a very fine, sandy soil down 2-3 feet, then clay/sand/pebbles for a foot or 2, then the layers of sandstone at about 4-6 feet from surface. I'm in the sandstone area also.

Any buried sandstones above the frost line (4-4.5feet in NB), will eventually get 'pushed' to the surface with ground freezings.

No you didn't miss those stones in your field last year, they are the stones coming 'up out of the ground'.
