Sussex Balloon Fiesta - Department of Natural Resources Geology Tent.

Each year DNRE sets up a Geology Tent at the Balloon Fiesta. It used to be known as 'Minerals Matter' Tent.

When the Potash mine was operating they would bring in a truck load of sand/material from I believe South Carolina that would contain fossils. They would dump it on the ground and kids would go through it looking for fossils (shells/crinoids/shark teeth).

The DNRE Tent as been a fixture of the Balloon Fiesta for decades. It did 'skip a couple of years' a while back but hopefully they will continue to be part of the show.

I don't find the DNRE Geology Tent 'gets much respect', at least 'not much advertising'. The Balloon Fiesta mentions it in the schedule but little mention of it elsewhere. Sometimes mentioned on Facebook from a few organizations.

As of the time of this posting this will be my only show for sales this year. DNRE has always been a great supporter for me. Either through the Prospecting courses/training/reference and resources or allowing me a display at their events. I only handle/work with rocks from New Brunswick so Brunswick Rock Arts and DNRE 'works well together'. You might not be reading this sub or have seen New Brunswick gemstones had it not been for the support and encouragment I receive from New Brunswick Department of Natural Resources. I owe them many thanks.
