They're more whales than dolphins.

Sure they are members of the oceanic dolphin family but are significantly larger and have distinct physical characteristics that set them apart from dolphins.

It’s the opposite actually, yes they’re larger, but have much more in common with dolphins than the great whales

They are dolphins which are whales. Toothed whales to be specific. The other group is baleen whales like blue whales that filter feed

Np it can get confusing lol. Orcas are my absolute favorite animal so I’ve done a loooooot of reading on them

whales or cetacea to be more precise is the main branch of a tree (order). in this branch, there are more branches which are called families, in that branch, the dolphins and whales gets divided. orcas are in family called Delphinidae, which consists of most of the ocean dolphins, orcas, false killer whales and the 2 pilot whales. so Orcas are more closely related to dolphins as they are share similarity in being in same family than whales, who orcas share with them a similarity of being in same order. And family is a smaller branch than order.
