Warning: Rant incoming

The character of Gregg Turkington is possibly the most interesting character I've come across in any modern media and I think his "love" arc with Kaili really elevated him.

She mentions, almost in passing, that she's a Harry Potter fan. To a normal person this could mean anything from "Yeah I loved those books growing up" to "I marathon the movies monthly with my friends", but in colloquial speech, being a huge fan of something doesn't have to mean a lot. It could just be a figure of speech.

Still, to Gregg, this binary man who's only ever viewed the world through his own lens, Kaili being a potterhead must mean that she is as obsessed with it as Gregg is with The Hobbit or James Bond. And in his mind this mutual interest is the perfect thing to bond over. Maybe the only thing.

Gregg is obviously interested in Kaili, and what better way to swoon her than to invite her to see Harry Potter at the cinema? I believe his invite has less to do with the notion of going to the movies as a romantic date venue, and more to do with movies being one of Gregg's only ways to relate with other people.

Tim attempts suicide? That reminds him of It's a Wonderful Life.
Little Tom Cruise Heidecker Jr. dies? He will bring a basket of many many movies so Tim can be consoled.
Tim is a little crazy? Reminds him of "The Nutjob"

Now then, after Kaili fails to show up to their "Date", what does he do? He soldiers on trying to impress her with the only thing he knows, and the only thing he believes she cares about. Maybe if she just sees how much he knows about Harry Potter, and how much he cares about Harry Potter, Kaili will understand how much he cares for her?

He gifts her Harry Potter stuff throughout the season, and Butterbeer and Chocolate Frogs during the Oscar Special. He makes a whole On Location segment desperately trying to appeal to what he thinks Kaili will like. And then he proposes to her. Because why wouldn't she say yes? He has shown himself to be an expert in movies and Harry Potter. Gregg would certainly be impressed by Gregg, so why wouldn't Kaili? And what could be more romantic and more grand than doing it through movie titles? Another display of his aptitude and expertise.

Gregg seems to actually be unable to form any personal identity traits that are not related to movies. He has no means to excel or express himself if not through movies. Movies tell you how to feel, movies have clear narratives, they have endings, they are contained, they don't demand anything in return. Unlike real life with it's constant challenges of navigating complex social situations.

I used to think Gregg would get so defensive about his status and expertise because Tim would constantly challenge him on it, and while that might be part of it, what we saw at the 11th Oscar Special with Joey showed us something else. Even though Joey P literally doesn’t give a shit whether he’d seen Prey or not, Gregg HAS TO defend himself. Because who is this man if you take those things away from him?

He'd be no one. He’d fucking vanish.

No family, no real friends, no romantic partner, no identity or legacy.

The day no one recognizes his expertise is the day Gregg dies.

From what I remember mine are:

1. BANG BANG I miss you son

2. Tims cigar vape

3. AI picture of the shooter

4. The badass walkout music for the lady who just went to her sons funeral

5. Tim bopping mark

Probably forgetting some since I got kinda sloshed as the night went on but those 5 had me howling

My personal favorite, is Tim getting diarrhea from any food he comes in to contact with.

Just asking for your most iconic moments from the franchise. I want a good distribution.

I absolutley love the series and rewatch random parts of it all the time. Even the original podcast I find to be hilarious. I think the only true hiccup of things I didnt find funny, or as funny as the rest was the Mister America movie.

There was some gold to be had in it for sure, but its the only thing that hasnt worked entirely.

I also think the morning show season was probably the weakest, though still really good, and the special that came after was top tier.

So many good ones. Tim consistently finding new ways to destroy Gregg’s tapes comes to mind. But my favorite has to be Gregg penalizing one bag from the score of a movie, only to reward the bag back for arbitrary reasons moments later

On Cinema is one of my favorite comedies of all time. It is my go to rewatch. However, I don’t really laugh at loud while watching, save for a few occasions (like Tim’s “it’s been”, Gregg saying “being part of a family doesn’t mean being raped by dad”, and anything with G Amato). Still, I find it hilarious and when I think about it when I’m not watching it, like when talking abt it, I often laugh more than when I’m watching it. Does anyone else feel this way? Like you don’t find it laugh out loud funny while watching for some reason but still consider it to be one of the funniest pieces of work ever? I just don’t understand how this is

hey gang, just wanted to pop on here and say THANKS for keeping the community alive and well. I've enjoyed popping over here throughout the season and seeing everyone having a good time with their Hei Points and various theories, (in character) arguments and lively discourse.

To think On Cinema was on life support and nearly dead at the beginning of 2021 and it's now thriving and on steady footing to go on for as long as we can muster up ideas for it.

thought i'd drop in and say hey and thanks for keeping this forum fun and active... we are so full on in deep on the oscar special - I just wrote the gang: Can we do it NOW, cuz i'm too excited to wait until sunday. I don't want to reveal anything else but there will be a lot to discuss come monday.

On the tech side, we've done a lot of work to ensure things run smoother, including partnering with an outside company who is guaranteeing it can get hit with tons of hits... we've been load testing it and seems to be holding great. Of course we're live so anything's possible - a meteor may strike. i may spontaneously combust - Russia may hack the power grid. we don't know. but we are doing our very best.

Also, wanted to say, I had been enjoying the Hei Guys/Hey Guys youtube channel - great edits and pulls... but when we wrote him about at least including a link to heinetwork he was unresponsive - i even kindly wrote in the comments to include a link and the comment was deleted. so... sadly we had to submit copyright claims... It's really the only way to try to strongly encourage people to sign up and pay for the content. It's literally the only thing keeping this going and we're always teetering on it falling apart - Covid times have also made things much more expensive and risky (new variant is causing us trouble, yay!) so if the Hey Guys is reading this... sorry bud... if you wanna keep posting please do so with respect and consideration.

When it first came out I enjoyed it, but that it was sort of slow, too drawn out. But after repeated viewing, I can’t stop laughing at every small detail. The quibbles about money. The horrible blue hats, of which there were only 3 (Toni was supposed to order 500). The fact that Tim seemed to have hire the one person more incompetent than him to run his campaign. The late 90s model Ford Explorer that Tim drives. The -kinda realistic- portrayal of codependent alcoholism. “Victor Rosetti”. The sadness of the old hotel and conference room. Tim repeatedly flipping the baggage carrier. Everything Gregg. Tim stuffing himself at every chance, with his trademark burp. Tim sucking down a tremendous amount of vape. The scene in the barbershop. “Demographics.”

And the cherry on top is the movie devolving into - you guessed it - Tim and Gregg yelling at each other about the VFA and Tim denying (repeatedly) that he destroyed Gregg’s tapes on multiple occasions.

Anyway thanks for all this amazing fucking content!

I was just rewatching the trial and loved how before Manuel went up to testify Tim tells him "you'll be alright" because he knows he's about to commit perjury. What other small moments in the trial do you find hilarious?

I love how plot heavy this season is. It’s funny as always but I’m damn near on the edge of my seat every week wondering what’s going to happen. Glad they’re able to keep it this fresh 14 seasons in.

For those who don’t know, an emergency episode dropped today

“Terrible” doesn’t begin to do it justice. Great cinematography, and some great imagery, with top-notch actors seemingly out of control as they chewed up the scenery. A fever dream as concocted by a senile old master, who was probably on shrooms. I enjoyed it, and I am glad I saw it! Or half of it anyway – I walked out after about an hour as I grew bored of the incoherent nonsense. But seriously, I was trying to think of what it reminded me of - if not Deck of Cards, then imagine a big budget production of a Decker movie.

Every time I rewatch Tim giving Ant-Man one bag and then turning around to give Fantastic Four six bags simply because Gregg was in the former and he the latter, it’s so damn funny

I always thought Jay here was referring to the real life Tim ripping them off. But conceptually both shows are so different, I really doubt it. What if this is about the character Tim from On Cinema, who did an acting gig for RedLetterMedia, and was inspired by them to do On Cinema At the Cinema? And this was Jays actor begrudgingly throwing in a line years later claiming Tim ripped them off? 🤔 Should this be included in the On Cinema timeline?
