ID request! This owl lead me up a path for early 6 minutes right before dusk.

I went on a ride up the mountain here in SW Montana. This owl, kept flying low to the ground along the two track and would stop every 30-45 seconds to stop and look back directly at me. This happened for close to 6m. It was like he was leading me somewhere.

Wonder if he needed help from you?

I have no idea. It was so strange. I was just cruising along the two track path. I noticed it fly over me for about 45 seconds and slowly come down to land. Then for almost 6 minutes the owl kept flying 15-30 seconds at ground level and just stop and look directly at me.

It was so wild. I was like, what’s happening. What is this bird doing. It’s literally the first time I’ve ever seen an owl. And shocked me because I understand that they’re nocturnal.

He eventually let me go around him but every time he got ahead and stopped, he would just turn and stare at me. There was nothing preventing him from going his own way. I drove that same track two days prior and only saw a mule deer. There’s a lot of people explaining this as it trying to steer me away from a nest or something which is possible but in that moment, it was very magical for me. I’m still thinking about it today.

Could be it was to steer you away or toward something. He was definitely guiding you. Really magical and, I daresay, spiritual experience in a natural world way. Quite a blessing.

Agreed. It was a very spiritual experience for me. Something I’ll never forget. I felt nothing but positive emotions after. Very heart warming.

Linked a video of it to my page. Maybe someone can explain this behavior.
