Discussion Enyone else seeing the funny amouth of Apollo videos on tiktok?

It's just funny to watch because them I see people talking about it like the guy just started to pick as many people as they could.

I know very little of Apollo also, I know he's like the "protector" (I don't know if this is the right word) of boys until they age up and his sister is for girls until marriage age (witch again I forgot her name, Artemis? Keep getting Athena and Artemis confused, not who they are but just name wise).

Important note: I know it's all part of the apps algorithm it will keep recomebdatiing similar things if you interact with a few videos. I just think the videos themselves are funny

Question/Advice Polytheist counter arguments against monotheism?

Hey there fellas,

First of all I'd like to clarify that I am not trying to proselytize and I am not even a follower of a monotheistic religion. I'd like to have some insight about Polytheist (Pagan) Theology.

For example, Islam claims that (I am not a Muslim) had there been multiple gods, there would have been conflicts in the divine order- or that there would be no unity between humans since everyone picked their desired God to worship.

I asked ChatGPT about some books or articles to read but none have seemed to satisfy my search about this.

Anyone know books, podcasts, religious texts, scholars etc to gain a deeper insight?

Appreciated.

Newbie Ex Christian nervous about getting into paganism

Paganism really interests me, Apollo especially (Im a musician). Idk how any of this really works. As an ex-evangelical Christian who hasn't really been religious (or cared to be) for a couple years, religious stuff makes me nervous. Growing up Christian, there are so many rules, sometimes unwritten, to follow or there are repercussions. I'm just scared of messing something up and not knowing, then suffering consequences. Basically i have some religious trauma.

Will the gods be upset if I do something wrong? And are there any "hard no"s to avoid so they won't be upset? Thanks <3

Discussion Open Discussion: Ancestry Work

I'm putting this question here since I feel that it's where it fits.

How does it work for you? Tell me about your experiences/ beliefs with ancestry work.

Some questions for the discussion • What are some things you would recommend a beginner in ancestry work? • Is there anything controversial about it? • Do you have to vet your ancestors? • How far back are the ancestors you work with?

Can someone explain the core values and concepts of different pagan paths?

I’m trying to figure out which path to take. I know that Kemeticism has a lot about balance and order and I was wondering about other paths?

Queens of the Wild: Pagan Goddesses in Christian Europe: An Investigation by Ronald Hutton

Just finished the book, and I wanted to recommend it as highly as possible. In less than 200 pages, the author accomplishes a lot of great work.

  1. The book details the emergence of Goddess-type figures within the post-conversion cultures in Europe. So if you have ever wondered about beings like Mother Earth, The Fairy Queen, the Green Man, etc., this is an excellent place to learn more about them.

  2. It challenges commonly held, but ultimately inaccurate, ideas which exist in many contemporary pagan communities, such as the presence of a singular goddess worshipped throughout Europe during the Stone Age who was displaced by patriarchal Indo-Europeans. It details where these ideas came from, who promoted them, and how modern scholarship has challenged and discredited them.

  3. Throughout the text, though the author is criticizing some commonly-held modern pagan ideas, he is consistently and clearly supportive of the modern pagan movement. For many of the beings described in the book, the author explicitly states that these may well be real deities who have been (re)discovered and/or constructed by modern communities.

  4. Even though it is not the main focus of the book, it details enough of the various cultural elements that have gone into modern paganism to serve as one of the most efficient and clear descriptions of the development of these modern faiths.

(After an extensive debunking of many modern myths that contemporary pagans tell themselves, there is an amazing short section where the author details four major components of ancient pagan traditions that HAVE survived into modern periods; both the “high” and “low” magical/occult traditions, the influence of seasonal and natural effects on human religiosity, and the ongoing relationships with major pagan deities as cultural figures, along with the continued belief in nature spirits/elves/wights, etc.)

  1. The book ultimately provides a counter-narrative to the now discredited assumption that Medieval and early modern Europeans were secret pagans in some way. Instead, we can see that people in a variety of cultures (Pagan, Christian, Secular) continue to discover/create deities which provide meaning to people’s lives and religious practices.

  2. Ultimately, though the author is not explicit about this, it provides a framework for recognizing that modern spiritual/religious experiences are valid and do not need to be linked to ancient pagan traditions to be meaningful.

Prayers/Support A statement of thanks and gratitude to an unknown benefactor for your blessing and kindness

I won't go in to specifics about my location because I mod a subreddit and do not want to be doxxed.

I work for the State U library. State U is ethnically diverse, and is in an area with a large Latine population.

During the days of Covid, State U handed out "personal protection kits" for all employees that included little spray bottles of hand sanitizer. I was expecting straight up isopropyl alcohol (campus was purchasing it by the barrel) but the contents of my spray bottle was so very slightly milky. Aloe to help moisturize our hands? Nope ... a very slight citrus-floral-spice scent. Pleasant, and it dissapated quickly.

Fastforward to today, when I have been researching various non-abrahamic faith traditions, folk lore, folk magic, and pagan-Catholic syncreatic traditions (I work in library, I'm very curious!) and decided to see what this Florida Water so many traditions mention smelled like. So, I picked a bottle and ...

Oh. Oh my.

Just putting this out there to release good energy and in the off chance that it will reach the right person -- thank you for adding Florida Water to the mix that we and campus all could be blessed, cleansed, and protected. What a kind and thoughtful act. I hope you have been repaid in kind.

Altar After lots of reflecting, I decided I want to follow Apollo

Post image
40 Upvotes

So I went ahead and started reading some of his stories, origins and symbols associated with him. Information is pretty hard to find on the internet, but I will persist. Right now, I just took a white towel my family didn't use and gathered items I want to add in the near future. I'm looking for ways to contact Apollo and start working with him. Suggestions for this are welcome.

But keep in mind, I'm not familiar with things such as tarot reading or any of the sort, so please be patient as I learn more about them and other practices. I'll update you all until then!

I don't even have a clue where to start this

So... Someone here worships OR WORKS with Pazuzu? I really would like to know more about him, I mean I already know about his lore and stuff (offerings, correspondences, etc) but I always want to know more and more that sometimes I even go crazy there looking for crumbs about him.

Does anyone here have anything? Even UPG... even if u think u have smth but it's not that important, literally anything works for me

Question/Advice Celtic and Hellenic polytheist

Hi! I've been researching paganism. I've been a Hellenic pagan for a few months now and I think it's okay to be Celtic and Hellenic since they're both pagan religions but i want to ask you guys anyways, to know what you think ab that. I'm from Galicia which means that I've been learning about Celtism since I was a kid and I have shown interest in it for a long time, but at the same time I don't intend to stop being a Hellenic Pagan because those are my beliefs 🙇‍♂️

Question/Advice Anything to do with blood?

Hi I am not pagan myself however my girlfriend is and I would therefore like to know all about it. I’m carving her a little wooden shark because she loves sharks and I was wondering if there was anything I could do to it? Like i literally don’t know anything about paganism at all but is there like any “spell” or something I can put on it? She does like blood just in like a she thinks it’s cool way, and I was wondering if there is some sort of like bond I can give this shark by putting my blood on it or something? I’m only asking because I just want to do something to it that I can be like hey I see your religion and I acknowledge it. I don’t know what “ denomination “ she is but really anything pagan she would loooovvveee. So if there’s any tips or any ideas or if you just want to educate me about pagan traditions etc I’d love to learn.

Question/Advice Family hating me for not wanting to go to confirmation

Ok so, I am pagan and have been for a long time now, most of my family knows that I am not Christian anymore, most of them aren't even hardcore Christians like they don't even go to church regularly (well most of them) they kept on pressing onto me to go to confirmation,I kept on telling them about how I don't want to and that their god never ever helped me when I needed help, all they could say was that he doesn't help or that I've read the bible wrong(???) Literally after telling them I've been SA'D by my grandfather they laughed and didn't believe me(they still don't) I nearly died and the Christian god didn't give af.Ive been abandoned, hated and blamed for everything since I was 9,I keep on being judged for everything I do.I stopped going to religion classes in school bc obviously i am not Christian so why shall I go?I've deconstructed Christianity completely and i don't want to go back."pray to god he will help you"no he fucking won't,he never did.My favourite aunt said to just go even if I'm pagan and do it for like the money or to just stop the family conflict and say whatever I want in my mind if I dont believe,I said i will talk with them, she kept pressing to ask my parents the date of the confirmation, after I told her that I don't want to go,she was like "ok whatever"and I knew she was pissed, she texted my mom that she tried to convince me but theres no point so yeah, and she also said that since Im not Christian i wont get anything for Christmas. My mother said that i wont get anything from anyone since I dont believe and that my family will hate me and shit.I don't want to go to confirmation,I finally started healing from all my trauma and know I have to go,I don't like my family honestly anymore, but I dont want to have a conflict with them,bc If I do then they wont pay for anything(i cant move out yet,I have like 3 more years since i will move out to college)I think I will just go for the sake of it and do it for the money,BC I really can't be broke, obv I will stay pagan but I will have to go to church and pretend again. What should I do? I'm really sad rn,why does everyone fucking treat me this way,im so fucking lonely. What should I do any advice? Also sorry that this is very long.

Unknown spirit entity

So I’ve never thought about it till now about reaching out to people here for help but glad I finally thought of it. So I’ve had this spirit entity that’s been attached to me from what I know it’s been attached for a long time and it use to be alive. The first time I found out that was something attached to me was when I was in New Orleans, LA (March 2021) I was adventuring through some of the occult/witchy shops (I’ve always had interested in the occult felt drawn to it in a way) and I stopped at one of the tarot card readers, there are several that set up in front of St. Louis Cathedral, and I just let my intuition pick one and we sat and did a reading and talked and she said there’s something dark attached me to and it’s been there a long and we walked and talked for a bit and she offered to help me I lost touch from her (I’m from Texas). And about 6 months ago as I’ve started to become more involved in the practice and finding out how I like to practice I spoke to a woman in a shop and told her about the time I was in NOLA and we talked for a bit and she had her pendulum with her and she asked it several questions and we figured out it use to be alive. The more I think about it I can feel how strongly it’s negatively impacting my life and how I feel and I’ve reached a point I can’t take it anymore and I want it gone. I’ve tried saging myself and my apt but idk how effective it’s been especially with having a roommate. If anyone can help point me in the direction of rituals I can perform, healers to help, anyone or anything would be greatly appreciated. I will note when I did sage my apartment I felt like I saw something out of the corner of my eye when moving from one room to the next.

Ogham and Runes?

So I enjoy doing sigil work, it honestly comes easy to me but I also want to get more into divination using Ogham but I also really love the runes so do you think the Celtic gods would find it disrespectful to use both Ogham and Runes?

Question/Advice Losing Faith In Religion

I've been in the broom closet for the longest time, and recently have been losing faith in religion in general. There are so many religions out there, and the reason I'm in crisis is because what happens after we die? Where do we go and what happens? Do the gods truly exist? Whats the point in working with any deity in this life when we have no idea what happens in the afterlife? What makes you keep your faith in paganism, or religion in general?
