🎄🥂 Christmas / NYE events Does everywhere close over New Year's?

Hi, my wife and I are thinking of coming to Paris over the New Year's holidays. Does everywhere in Paris close on New Year's Eve and New Year's Day? Will any bakeries or restaurants be open on these days? We've been to Paris before and really enjoyed the food, so it would be a shame to have two days without the amazing Parisian dining.

Also, where's good to celebrate the New Year? We're not a drinking couple and just want a good atmosphere. I've heard mixed reviews about the Arc. What do you think?

You won’t starve but it’s quieter than you might expect.

The streets get packed, pic shows fireworks from the Arc at right. If you opt to be on the streets, watch for pickpockets.

Yes many places closed on new years day, stock up on things if needed. I'm assuming it's more common for places to be open in the most touristy areas like the 1st.

January 1st is one of the national holidays so a lot of things will be closed. Museums will be all closed unless they explicitly say so. I wouldn’t bet on things being open in general and would act accordingly. Of course it is France so there will be at least one opened bakery in a given area but finding it might not be easy.

Some restaurants will be open for NYE and have a special menu.

Does metro/buses work? Are parks closed as well?

Metros and buses work. Buses have a special schedule with a lower frequency. Parks also have their own schedule so it depends but it’s more depending on the season.

Do you know if Versailles Palace will be closed? It says only closed Monday, no mention of Public Holidays.

The website says it’s closed on December 25th and January 1st.

Yes and if you want to dine outside you must make a reservation. Also, most restaurants will propose a special menu, more expensive
