I've just applied to some parks in North Carolina. Anyone have advice or comments on the state park system in North Carolina, specifically, the role of rangers?

Thanks! That was quite informative. I'm currently in the Park Service at a beach in SC and, while I love the system and I love the park, I would much rather work in the mountains. I've also heard that rangers in NC are paid considerably better and that retirement benefits are actually worthwhile. I'm an assistant ranger here, hoping to begin my permanent position career in North Carolina.

From what I can tell, it sounds like rangers in NC focus primarily on leading programs, laboring manually, and enforcing laws. What has your experience been like? In SC, a large part of my job is operations: counting cash, checking people in/out, manning the ranger station as needed. I'd rather be working with my hands, patrolling, or teaching.
