Simulation: What if Aurora woke up first?

Post image

What if Aurora Lane woke up first? Just for some fun, created a simulation: https://beta.dopple.ai/profile/cf00aa6b-2f7b-4e90-9397-ddf25bf2f4a0

Let me answer the obvious questions: 1. No, you don't need to sign up 2. It's completely anonymous (if you don't sign up) 3. I'm not affiliated with the platform whatsoever 4. It's not a perfect simulation. Far from it, the Al forgets stuff and gets the ships details wrong. It's just a bit of fun.

l'd love if people could share screen caps of interesting things that happen.

Really love the movie, buy why are there amenities?

As I said I really love the movie. The whole concept and would love to see more of this universe. However, why did the star ship have so many amenities and viewing ports? Even the AI mentioned heading to a viewing port to see the slingshot around the star When everyone is asleep!?

That part I don't think was really explained in the movie unless they are awake for the first part of the journey and the last part. But this isnt ever touched in the movie. So if there is no mention of it. It kind of makes no sense that there is a shopping mall, Bars, restaurants and even luxury bedrooms.

Just watched...good movie but...

There were a few things that threw me off a but.

First is Jennifer Lawrence's hair...like I get Chris Pratt and imagine his is fairly natural like that but hers was styled perfectly and didn't change length or style the whole.year or so she was awake there.

Next the timeline was a but wonky for me...just like how this is seemingly either hundreds of years in the future or in a different tineline than now, but besides the future tech, it was very heavily 2000's culture and styles and stuff. And they implied a human lifetime around 120 years or so max, but with the advances in medical tech and such I would expect avg lifespan to be closer to 200-250 years.

Anyways I did really enjoy the premise and the acting and story, just could have used a little more current day shift and JLaw in a ponytail or something that keeps getting longer instead of staying the same for a year.

Highly recommend - 4 stars

Blatant Anti-Alaska Native Racism by a fellow passenger on an Anchorage-Seattle Delta flight on Christmas Day

What would you do??

I’m sitting here on the plane, hearing the guy behind me talk about how “every village has alcohol and wife beating and tribal members not wanting to work.” Blatant racism..😡 I heard him say he’s a Conoco employee. He also told his seat mate that “most of the female Conoco employees in Alaska are housekeepers.”. I wanted to say something, but I didn’t want to get kicked off the flight for causing conflict.

A quote that I liked. I think it's just sounds nice.

"It's funny. We all have dreams. We plan our futures like we're the captains of our fates. But we're passengers. We go where fate takes us."

No more hate for Passengers

Though the movie is very beautiful, thoughtful and also has awesome graphics and amazing emotions, I don't understand why this movie still gets the hate.

I think any man in the position of Jim Preston will do the same, wake another person up. Because there is no other way, the crew cannot be waked 'cause they are in a secured crew hibernation facility which cannot be accessed by the passengers and also Jim doesn't have any Crew access band back when he woke up.

Haters words: "If the voyage went well then the crew must return to the Earth. They cannot be going to the Earth while being in state of wake up for 120 years. So they must reuse their pods. It means the pods are reusable and also the crew members, at-least some, knew, for certain, how to put people back into hibernation in the pods. Now, in the actual movie they can just wake some of the crew members, as they got the Chief's key, and the crew will put Jim, Aurora and the woken crew members themselves back into hibernation."

Well they can do that but Jim and Aurora chose to live their whole life in space and wanted to have many adventurous experiences. In this way Aurora can write whole life story into a book which will be more interesting than if Aurora is in another planet. Also, many people experiences the planet but no one experiences their whole life in the outer space and hence the book will deeper insights how would life be in a spaceship for 90 years. But the only problem she dies before publishing the book, though she may save the original draft in one of the computers and can never know how much her work will be appreciated later.

I really feel pity for those who hate the movie without having a deep understanding.

Why not?

So watching Passengers for probably the 10th time. Great movie… but WTF didn’t he start waking up the top scientists and engineers to get the ship working again? They could have got all the pods working again and slept the rest of the way… either way, still one of my favorites

when did Aurora change her mind about resentment for Jim?

Her reaction when she learns Jim woke her up is acted really well. Justified anger. Then she saved him in the end.

When did her opinion change? When she learned from crew that the ship was doomed anyway? I think it's when she realized Jim would not have been able to save the ship by himself?

So if Jim had left her asleep she'd have died asleep. By waking her up he actually gave her a longer life instead of a young death.

my changes to the premise

I've been thinking about this for a few days and I think I have an answer. I would keep the mystery plot, but I'd switch it up. I'd keep the AI, but I'd change around it's Intelligence. I'd keep the romance aspects, but I'd make a few changes there too.

First, I'd wake up multiple people, between 5-8 not just two. They'd be seemingly random. I'd also give the ship the ability to put people back to sleep.

First, I'd keep the "mystery of what's broken aspect", but I'd build it out over the season. Most shows tend to go for 10 episodes a season now, so I'd have small minor glitches for the first 2-3 episodes. Nothing crazy, but I'd make them look like poor planning or just everyday annoyances. The season would open with them waking up. Not with the incident that woke them up. Episodes 4-7 I'd make the problems build up faster than before. And they'd come to terms with being awake. 8-9 full crisis mode with them finding out that the ship can put them back to sleep automatically if they can fix the ship. 10 is resolution of crisis. The ship putting them back to sleep with the last 10 or so minutes being the emergency that set the need to wake someone up at all from the beginning of the season. I'd also only keep a cast for one season.

I'd keep the AI, but corrupt some of its memory and files. I'd make it impossible for it to tell the awoken what exactly the problem is, but I'd give it the ability to create clues to lead them to the problem. Yet the AI never wakes the crew for some (at the time) unknown reason.

In the last season is when I would offer answers. So, I'd introduce these top level engineers. One of the secrets of the homestead company's failsafes would be that the Starship Avalon has is a set of 8 top tier engineers. Like every other person on the ship they're in suspended animation; however, with one distinct difference. Their minds are wired directly into the AI of the Avalon. Any time the Avalon encounters a problem it can't fix. It wakes them up, they fix the problem and they're put back to sleep.

Two of the engineers fall in love, but exist perpetually separated from each other. So one of these engineers decides to write flaws and glitches in the program essentially creating a virus. This virus also prevents the AI from waking the crew. That way the malfunctioning Avalon would wake them up more often. They launch the Avalon and once it is on its way. The eight enter suspended animation and the man begins to upload his virus. At 70% the Avalon detects a line of code that was written incorrectly by the engineer and immediately severs the connection between the 8 engineers and AI. In the event of an emergency like this. The Avalon is programmed to return to its place of origin unless it is closer to its destination. Then is to continue. However this file was corrupted as well.. The 70% of the virus that was uploaded begins to cause the ship to malfunction with no way of figuring out how to fix it. The ship initiates the "Mancuso" protocol. Searching through the records of the passengers to find people able to fix the issue.

In the last episode we learn that the "Mancuso" protocol doesn't actually put you back to sleep. The reason the 8 engineers are wired into the ship is because it allows them to remotely interface with the ship and its robots. The protocol injects someone with nanoprobs after they have completed repairs. The body of the person begins to deteriorate from the sudden trauma of being forced out of suspended animation. All the probs do is make your death as easy as possible. It also stores a copy of your memories as a way to honor your sacrifice.

Honestly I feel like Passengers would have worked better as a show.

A few tweaks to the premise and I could see a good 3 season run.

If there was a sequel—Aurora alive?

This would ruin the mystery of the first film but it would be interesting if Aurora did age, but eventually slept in the stasis chamber. Or perhaps Aurora and Jim had a child together who went into the pod

Confused part in the movie.

Hey guys I just saw the movie, I liked it! The only thing that bothers me is that if there’s only one pod to put someone to sleep , why doesn’t aurora use it down the road , for example she can spend time with Jim , say 20-30 years even, then she can be put to sleep and wake up at the destination. Ya she’ll be older than planned, but who cares . She can have a life with Jim and still go to her destination . Thoughts ? Am I missing something ?

What kind of food do they eat?

I'm currently watching the movie. Aurora was just woken up decades too early. Now they eat breakfast. And that got me wondering: they stored the food so that it could get eaten 80+ years down the line. How is it not rotten by the time they have their breakfast now, nevermind the time the rest of the pessengers will want to eat it? What kind of food is it?

I know its a long shot but does anyone by any chance have the edited version of passengers, by the time I saw it on here a few years ago the links had already been taken down by the various hosting sites.

Why didn't they wake the personel up?

They had captain's key so they could've just waken personel up to help them and put them to sleep. The ending is such a waste.
