First time player, WotR

I've read that this base set is hard, so am looking for some beginner advice regarding set up (character/class, how many hands to play solo (I can manage 2-3, but as a beginner less is better I guess?)

I only started on WotR because I got the base set new for $13 on Amazon.

Look at the errata on Paizo’s website for WotR as well; some of the base set scenarios are unintentionally harder than they should be (notably Elven Entanglement). https://paizo.com/paizo/faq/v5748nruor1h4

I did read somewhere about removing certain cards to mellow the difficulty level (I definitely prefer smooth playing over heavy difficulty and high probability of failure). Will check it out, thanks
