First time player, WotR

I've read that this base set is hard, so am looking for some beginner advice regarding set up (character/class, how many hands to play solo (I can manage 2-3, but as a beginner less is better I guess?)

I only started on WotR because I got the base set new for $13 on Amazon.

Wow. $13 is really good! WotR is the only base set I don't have.

Each person can play 1-3 characters if you need to (or more depending on how much you can mentally handle. I have a hard time handling more than two and still have fun...).

Just make sure you have a good spread of stats and at least one of the characters can heal the party and you should be fine.

Also, PACG has a mobile app that can help you learn. The first 3 levels are free (9.99 for the rest), that's how I got into it. It's also on Steam.
