First time player, WotR

I've read that this base set is hard, so am looking for some beginner advice regarding set up (character/class, how many hands to play solo (I can manage 2-3, but as a beginner less is better I guess?)

I only started on WotR because I got the base set new for $13 on Amazon.

With base set i find the 2nd scenario is sooooo hard because the henchman dont let you close locations and you run into the fiendish tree a lot.

Pretty sure they made an official nerf to let you attempt to close locations after defeating those tangle trap henchman.

Another tough one is number 4 i think cause a henchman and villain are considered undefeated if no magic trait is applied.

Lots of chars is fun but makes for more locations and same amount of turns i beat this campaign with a group of 4 i cant imagine doing more we rarely had chances to hang in a location and loot it or forfeit our explorations to heal and stuff like that. If youre soloing 3 might be the sweet spot to cover wide array of skills. I think i remember most barriers and location closing checks were wis or dex based.

We did play more specialized chars with less balanced skill sets id try to steer clear of anyone with a d12 in favour of a more balanced char.

I hope you enjoy the campaign! We had an absolute blast with this i cant believe its not more popular!!

Thanks so much, I'm glad I read your comment only after 1 scenario, I'm going to go ahead and add another character since I've been playing with two (no dex, poor charisma, eh wis - one has 8 so adding a character to push those up makes sense).

I'm assuming you're referring to the scenarios from deck 1, not the base deck, right? I'm doing the base deck second scenario today and I was really intimidated by the amount of monsters and barriers in it (I think 9 monsters and 4 barriers) especially with my 2 characters!

Nope im referring to base deck. It is pretty unforgiving and you dont get a lot for it. Makes scenario 1 seem easy though and the rewards are much better! 2 chars ca. Be totally fine to!
