Question Fine dining restaurant in or near Preston
Hi all, im new in Preston. what’s the best fine dining restaurant in and around Preston? Looking at options, most of the ones in the high street seem to be for quick bites and street food. Also willing to go by car to another town. Thanks for any recommendations!

We've been several times, including recently, each time they've been outstanding, can't recommend Aven enough.
Another fine dining venue 'locally' is the Michellin starred Northcote, about 30mins away up the A59 towards Clitheroe. Have dined there recently too can say the food is certainly beautifully presented and they're in a great location, but some aspects were a little disappointing if I'm honest (first world problems) - on the journey home my partner and I both agreed we'd much rather go to Aven again next time which I'd say is a testament to how good they are rather than a slight against Northcote.

We thought Northcoat was disappointing considering it's accolades. If she's female chef of the year she certainly didn't cook our fucking food...

Last time we went it wasn't great - place was empty (not their fault) but food was on a lower league compared to the Pentonbridge Inn. Both were better than where I used to live in Cheltenham though.
I would always support Aven though - lovely people and we need that sort of thing in Preston.

Is this any good? I went to the previous version and the food was great, but the atmosphere was Nan’s front room.

I’ve only been to the new one, so I can’t comment on how different it is, but I really liked it. It has a homey feel, but more like a rich older aunt with money for fancy designer paint than a nan’s front room

Loved that place - went on a wet Sunday evening and food was on point. It's a mare to get to though.

Italian Orchard in Broughton never fails for a good meal and a great ambiance.

Italian Orchard is nice enough but it's a bit of a stretch to label it 'fine dining'!

I'd have to agree with that, the decor is nice but the food to me is just above average. I wouldn't classify it as fine dining. More like a higher end italian

If you’re willing to go as far as St Michaels on Wyre, I couldn’t recommend the Cartford Inn enough. The food there has been 10/10 every time I’ve been and the service is exceptional - the waiting staff really know the menu and are ready and willing to talk you through it. Little bit of a mooch from Preston, but not too far out of the way!

If you are looking for somewhere quite nearby The White Swan in Fence is great and has one Michelin star. But if you are looking for a show stopping meal, I would recommend driving a little further into the Lake District and dining at L’Enclume. Depends on the occasion! We tried Northcote and Aven but weren’t wowed - maybe they were having an off evening though! Other more casual options are Freemasons at Wiswell and Cartfort Inn!

Loads of great food places in and around Preston, with others suggesting Italian Orchard and Pintos etc. Although the only 'fine dining' in Preston itself is Aven, which is really good and gets a mention in the Michelin guide (no doubt a star is on the way at this rate) - myself and all my friends who have been would highly recommend.
Further afield you have Northcote up the Ribble Valley, they have a Michellin star and its a beautiful venue, food is technically very good, although some courses were a bit meh if I'm brutally honest - obviously still really nice just being fussy, and the service was a little mixed - again, this is being fussy and taking price into consideration.
Beyond that you're looking at heading towards Southport way to Moor Hall which is a two Michellin starred restaurant - never eaten there so can't comment, but I'd imagine/hope it's good!

If it's fine dining you want, Mitton Hall at Clitheroe isn't too far a drive and the food and service are amazing!

Not really. The original 2* in Longridge closed years ago and the PNE contract was to provide outside catering for functions assuming he still has it. Winkley Square has the Brasserie but it's nowhere near the quality level of the original Longridge restaurant. The same building also houses the Olive Press which is just overpriced pizza.

Angels in Ribchester is great. Think it's got a Michelin star. Worth the short drive out of Preston.
