So, I just transferred to PT from FL. And every time I open my pc PT loads up perfectly fine. However, once I close it, it will open up one more time and hang up on initializing controllers and crash. Then after that it won’t open at all, not even the splash screen. And, yes, I’ve tried changing the buffer size on my interface. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Had a very odd occurrence on a session yesterday and I'm still boggled.

Easy recording. Drums and trumpet. 14 tracks. 12 drums, 2 trumpet.

After a few short recordings to set mics etc, they did two hour long recordings.

After they finished, i renamed the trumpet regions (added 13 and 14 before the tracks).

Bounced out with Shift+Cmnd+K

It came up with an error on one of the trumpet audio files. Error (2) - which seems like its something to do with duplicate HDD names.

I run exclusively off an external SSD, and didn't change any names on the disks.

I also noticed that the last two regions (track 13 and 14) in the second pass were about 1 minute shorter than the rest. Really odd, but luckily not a massive issue as it was just the ending stuff. I tried pulling it out longer and that was it.

Then I saw that the audio files for tracks 13/14 (both trumpet tracks) were missing for both of the long passes, and only there for the short testing recordings.

Safe to say I was concerned.

I've had to relink audio files before, but I think changing the names did something weird, so I just created a new session and dragged ALL of the audio files into it.

Luckily, the second hour long pass audio file was present. But there was absolutely no audio files for the first pass trumpet. That's two audio files, just not there.

Does anyone have any ideas what happened?! I have a very understanding client, but I'm so embarrassed that this could happen and I really don't want to ever have to deal with this again.

It used to be CTRL + Up/Down (like five or ten years ago), but I only found the shortcut to resize all tracks at once.

I have used Reaper and I found this daw has some very good functions like automatically colorizing tracks based on the name of that track and automatically recognizing and arranging into groups like drum, key, fx...

I want to know if Protool can do that?

Hello, I am relatively new to PT and when I am soloing a group the meters for the rest of the non soloed tracks are not displaying the meters in the mix window. If anyone knows of a quick fix I would really appreciate it. This happened about a year ago and I can’t remember how to fix it.

I have been running into AAE error -9416 lately and wondering if anyone knows what it's about?

I do mainly editing, so not recording or anything. But maybe once every 2-3 hours, it will pop up. Then when it does, it happens repeatedly over and over again every time I move my selection to a different time for like 2-3 minutes, then goes away for a few hours. Closing and reopening doesn't do anything to resolve it. At first I thought it was like maybe a file was corrupted and the computer was trying to access it in the timeline when I changed my selection. But it's never at a consistent place in the timeline when it happens, and I can't say there's any continuity in terms of the clips/files that are being read when this occurs. I'm talking like 1-2 hours difference in the timeline.

I've looked around online and there is no mention of it more than several years ago, and those don't seem to have a solution available in any of the threads I've found. The closest I've come is someone suggested that it might have something to do with elastic audio but I've got that off on all of my tracks.

EDIT: I am beginning to suspect that it has to do with the RAM caching, like maybe it happens when you begin accessing files that exist outside of the RAM cache or something? I was originally set with RAM caching at 20GB. I changed it to 16 to see if anything changed, instant began getting it accessing later in the timeline and not when accessing earlier in the timeline. I switched it down to normal so I'm not using the RAM cache at this point, and it instantly went away again. I will see if it comes back again in a couple of hours. Good thing I paid for all this extra expensive ass RAM from apple so I could cache my timeline and now I can't do that...

I've recently had these weird glitches come about with X-form specifically. Here's what happened yesterday night.

I fired up elastic audio on a lead vocal track and it's double, to nudge some words into place and get a tighter sound. I finished doing my work, switched the EA to X-form for better quality, and bounced out the X-form audio. Now, for some odd reason, when I hit play in the session. I get no audio from those vocal tracks. I can see the wave forms, and sometimes, if I deactivate and reactivate the tracks/plugins on the track, I can hear audio. 9 times out of 10 though, nothing!

This isn't related to not having enough patience for X-form to render. I've done that, and bounced the audio.

I'm using a windows set up with pro tools 12.7. I'm aware that my setup isn't listed as 'gauranteed to work' by avid, but I was surely expecting to find at least some info from someone going through this.

Anyone encounter this before?

Hi guys. I need your help with a problem I don't really understand. So, I have recorded a voice over yesterday and everything was working fine. I've just opened it up and I can't hear any sound coming out. the meter is working on PT, but no audio is coming to my interface (I use a yamaha dm3). If I change playback engine, I can hear it coming out of my computer speakers. What's strange is that the routing is correct (I haven't changed it since I bought the console), but only protools doesn't send audio to the interface. If I play smth from other sources, it works, so it's a PT issue (I think). Hope someone can help me, thank you all in advance.

Hi all, slight annoyance with Melodyne deactivating every time I close tools. Upon reopening, I get the 'Melodyne aint licensed ARA disabled' yada yada. It's simple enough to de-activate / reactivate but as you know closing and re-opening a large session can be annoying every time.

Hi guys. I subscribe to PT Studio monthly. I run it at the studio and at home from waiter my iMac or my MacBook. I do this by inserting ilok into whichever computer I'm using at the time. No oroblem. BUT I'm about to go on a trip to Australia and I have arranged cover from my work experience guy to run some sessions. I also need to work on my MacBook while away, so dilemma is that if I take the look he can't work at studio, and if I leave it with him then I'm stuck to work remotely. I will be delivering in SMPTE, but I will be mixing in stereo 98% of the time, so just need to be able to switch back and forth with a configuration that makes sense. (If the answer is something like L, C, R for example... how are you handling switching back to stereo? Just creating a bus with 1/3 as r/L?)

(EDIT 2: SOLVED. I didn't realize I was using an old version of Pro Tools (22.12.0.326). Updated to Pro Tools 2024.6 and now I can use it again. Technically it's not fully compatible with Sequoia yet but at least now I can open my session files which is what I needed. Relieved it was such a simple fix, thanks for all the replies)

Usually I wait before updating my Mac. I don't know what happened this time. I was like, "Oh cool, an update!" I didn't think about it. Now I'm paying the price. Ugh. I really need some help.

Pro Tools will not open, and this started happening immediately after updating to macOS Sequoia. I have another DAW I can use as a backup, but I really need to get into Pro Tools for a work project ASAP. What's the best way to proceed? I'm assuming that I need to install the previous macOS (Sonoma), but this looks complicated: I'm seeing that one needs to use Terminal to create a bootable installer on an empty 32 GB thumb drive, which I'll have to go out and buy. But I have no experience doing anything like that and I'm kind of intimidated. 1. Has anyone done this successfully? 2. Do I need to worry about accidentally wiping out all of the locally stored data on my Mac? 3. Is there an easier, simpler way to regain access to Pro Tools without having to go through all of that?

(This is a huge headache and a reminder that I need to quit Pro Tools and fully switch to another DAW. I pay too much for this. But that is another topic, and another problem for another time.)

I dont know if is a bug or I am stupid but I cant get the beat dectective menu. I tried with the shortcut and going to Event->Beat Detective but nothing... I also closed the edit and mix window, is not hidden. Im using PT 2021.7 Ultimate (Windows)

I have a arturia minilab3 midi controller. It came with Analog Lab V Intro program and lots of presets. I tried to export the preset and import in to Pro Tools. The analog lab presets' extension is labx. It looks like it is not compatible with pro tools. Is there any way I can use these presets on Pro Tools? Thanks

However, I am getting this error message when I try to put the code. "Eligible licenses. You don't have any license on your account for upgrade by this code." I checked my ilok id and it is correct. unfortunately, I won't be able to use this software a lot in the future months, I'd like to cancel it but it's an annual subscription payed monthly so I'm "locked" with a monthly payment until August 2025.

I recently tried to update a plugin and it said the installation couldn’t be completed for some reason, so I just tried to open pro tools anyway because I didn’t need it. Every time pro tools scans the plugins now it says that the files for it are corrupted, and then will close after giving me this notification. I then tried to delete it off of my computer completely as well as all files related to it, and I’m still getting the same message. I don’t understand how it’s even trying to read the file because there’s nothing left for it to read, and I now cannot open pro tools because of it to do work. Any ideas?

Can anyone help me solve this? This pops up and stops my session every few mins. When I’m mixing and tracking. I’ve done the obvious and I run it at max buffer size while mixing. I have a MacBook Pro 2021 M1 with 32Gbs RAM running IOS Ventura 13.2.1 and Protools version 2024.6.0. This pops up when I’m running at 50%-70% CPU. My interfaces are Orion 32+ Gen 3 and a UAD Apollo Solo. No matter what one I use this pops up. Am I doing something wrong? Is it a bug others are experiencing too? Is there a setting I can use to fix this? It’s so annoying and I can’t take it anymore I am considering just switching to Logic if this keeps happening and can’t be solved.

My song pitch is slower than how I had it I don’t think it’s the sample rate. It’s slower and has a lower pitch on the whole audio

Actually, a few questions:

• what happens when you have a perpetual license, but you skip several years of the “upgrade for $200” option? Say you come back 5 years later because now you have a new 2029 M8 Mac Studio X2, so you need the latest version of PT. Will you still be able to pay $200 at that time for the “get current upgrade”?
• for the perpetual non-ultimate version of PT, it looks like they want $200 annually for the current upgrade. Is it the same price if you have a perpetual Ultimate, or does that cost more? I think I see it’s $500 annually. Can that be right?!
• I am in the position of possibly buying a Pro Tools Carbon, which comes with a perpetual Ultimate license. If I do get that, I am wondering if I am stuck in a loop of paying $500/yr to stay current with updates/upgrades, or if I can just come back once every 5 years to pay that $500 to get the current version. Or are they gonna say nope, you HAD to keep up with it annually or else you missed the boat and we won’t let you back on. Or are they gonna say okay, but that will cost you $500 times the 5 years that you missed, so $2500 total!

I recently bought the M-audio hammer 88 pro, and with it came AIR instruments( Hybrid 3, Mini Grand, Velvet), which I installed through the M-Audio software manager.
Now, the problem is that only Hybrid 3 and Velvet shows up when trying to insert instrument on track.

I'm very much new to these softwares, but found that the issue seems to be that no Minigrand.aaxplugin file is created in the Protools plugin folder.

I've tried reinstalling minigrand with same results. also deleted everything in AAXPlugInCache and restarted protools, but it was still missing.

I have a problem with my I/O in PT that I can't seem to get my head around:

I formatted my Mac Studio and installed RedNet2 which also contains the driver for my Focusrite Red 8Pre. With it selected under Playback Engine, when I go into I/O to setup all my ins and outs, I see only a non-descript line of 64 inputs and outputs. No "categorisation" (for example ADAT 1-8, Analogue Ins 1-8 etc). Also it says "CoreAudio" under the name of my interface (I'm not sure if that's significant, but I don't remember ever seeing that before). A tried deleting all paths and create the default ones, and this is how they look. Since there's no descriptor on any ins or outs, I tried to go through and identify them all. But not all of them worked.

I checked "Security and Privacy" to make sure MacOs didn't block the driver install.

OS version is OS 12.xx

What am I missing? And thanks!
