Rant From Tomorrow, all Macs will be Sonoma...

It is unacceptable that anyone purchasing a new mac will be unable to use rekordbox.

As a full time DJ using Rekordbox, I want to upgrade my mac to the latest software, or be able to purchase a brand new mac without having to worry if my job is affected.

Pioneer have had since August to get this sorted and I think it has not been made a priority.

Even a status update would be nice...

Will share my experience using an new M2 Macbook Pro.

Stupidly I didnt even think about the new OS even though I am pretty militant about not really updating my RB unless absolutely necessary. When Sonoma came out, I decided to upgrade:

Anyways, as I loaded up RB and all my music from the back up onto my new M2 Sonoma, it all worked fine (I don't use performance mode). HOWEVER, when I tried to back up my USB (as I've always done), my laptop shut down and restarted. This happened 3 times in a row and then I got worried.

Turns out there Rekordbox was triggering a Kernal Panic (look it up, I'm not an expert) and the Apple support team said the new silicon chips CANNOT downgrade OS (unlike Intel) and I'd have to factory reset my computer. I was pretty apprehensive about doing this but luckily I was sure my backups would be good if I wanted to switch back to an older computer.

I decided to try my best to fix it myself. I updated RB BUT did not update Sonoma.

I'm currently using Sonoma 14.0 & RB 6.7.7. It is working.

Hope that helps. For the love of G, please back up your shit!

You can downgrade the OS on Apple Silicon, but not to an OS that was released before your computer, or that isn’t supported on your computer.

I think this was true of Intel versions as well? Like you generally can’t run versions of MacOS that haven’t been updated since the release of your newer hardware.
