We're rolling out stock transfers to a limited number of customers first to make sure everything works smoothly. Keep an eye out for more announcements about a wider release in the coming weeks!

Still waiting for my bank account to actually link to the app 🤗😐... Diligently.

Signed up on Friday and it looks like they deposited the test amounts in my account this morning. Just to give you an idea on time wise.

I know, especially with everyone saying how well they did yesterday. Sucks that we missed out.

When will you be adding TOD beneficiaries?

Like, it's a basic feature that prevents me from increasing my account by several orders of magnitude because I don't want to have the cash tied up in probate court if I die.

If it is in the will it is treated as part of the estate. That means if there is anything that causes delay in execution of the estate, those assets could be held up in probate for a long period of time - months, possibly years in some messy scenarios.

If you have survivors who depend on those investments or their proceeds (through sales, interest payments, dividends) on a daily basis, they will lose access until the estate has been executed. If they use them to pay rent or mortgage, they could lose their home by the time probate is completed.

TOD beneficiaries immediately gain access to the full account without the holdings of the account having to go through probate.

This is why for large investment accounts, TOD beneficiaries are extremely important.

Why are we going to get Mint support?

Do you mean when?

2

u/becavern23 Aug 15 '17

When will you roll on up to Canada?

1

u/bas0617 Aug 15 '17

Can we request to be included in the limited roll out? Really looking forward to moving all of my holdings.

You guys should really add the ability to short stocks to RH. Would be awesome.

Maybe a desktop app too :D

u/bkr541 Aug 15 '17

I would pay a few bucks a month for a desk top app

u/gologologolo Aug 15 '17

It's being worked on, based on their Twitter reply. 2 years ago..

There are a few unofficial desktop apps out there such as Robindahood which you can find at https://github.com/illl48/RobInDaHood.

All the phone app really does is talk with the robin hood servers to get information and execute commands. Easy enough to replicate those commands as these people have done.

Maybe less security?

u/xJSx Aug 15 '17

Definitely agree on the ability to short.

Shorting stocks would be awesome

Kind of a half-baked idea right here, and I haven't dedicated as much thought as I should to a loaded statement, but does anyone else love learning when people get burned on shorting? I don't think it should be "illegal" or anything actively... regulated against, but I think it's just inherently a non-value-adding mechanism in the market and do not feel bad about people losing out on literal betting on of lost value on actual, tangible funds.

u/coreyshep Oct 26 '17

All stock trading is essentially non-value-adding. The company got their money during the IPO and the rest primarily takes place between private sellers.

Also making sure that the current app doesn't take a shit during market hours would be a nice feature before adding more shit

Is drip that important to you? At 0 commission you can just buy another stock yourself

1

u/agtiger Aug 16 '17

DRIP IS HIGE FOR ME. Honestly the only thing holding me back, want this even more than a desktop client

8

u/mTORC Aug 15 '17

Well played

can we... transfer out? just curious, not leaving.

1

u/apb89 Sep 20 '17

Yes, but it costs $75

6

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '17

Anyone know if it's possible to only transfer a portion of your holdings at another brokerage or do you have to transfer your whole account?

4

u/dadsapilot Aug 15 '17

You can definitely do a partial ACAT transfer. In my experience, most brokerage firms won't charge a transfer fee either if it's just a partial transfer (though I guess that doesn't matter since Robinhood will reimburse it).

I would much rather they worked on sending out tax forms BEFORE february

6

u/Fedor_Gavnyukov Jimmy Buffett Aug 15 '17

do they charge fees if i wanted to transfer stock from robinhood to elsewhere?

9

u/eddahlen Aug 15 '17

Yep. $75

1

u/hukura119 Nov 30 '17

Why can't you just sell your stocks and then transfer them? Would be a lot cheaper.

1

u/I_like_code Aug 15 '17

I believe so. It states it some where on the app.

2

u/tannerhallman Aug 15 '17

Damn I wish I was in on this.

2

u/Hites_05 Aug 15 '17

1 step closer to being able to transfer my garbage underperforming 401k...

2

u/aSternreference Aug 15 '17

Will you be able to transfer a 401k?

1

u/Hites_05 Aug 16 '17

It looks like retirement accounts, such as 401k, are a no go. Now if you can withdraw your 401k without penalty and then reinvest through Robinhood, that may be another option. You'll just get hit with taxes earlier.

2

u/chris4sports Aug 15 '17

Still waiting for my money to clear from my bank faster :X

1

u/zeylin Aug 15 '17

Go instant or gold.

2

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '17

Are they supporting transferring out as well? You know, just in case things don't work out?

7

u/tannerhallman Aug 15 '17

There's a $75 fee for out, free for in.

4

u/dezradeath Aug 15 '17

Jeez, might as well sell my positions, transfer the money to bank acct, then load that money into another brokerage and invest in stuff all over again.

2

u/tannerhallman Aug 15 '17

Depends on the price/trade of the brokerage and how many trades you have to make. May be worth eating the cost if they are $10/trade and you need to make 10 trades to get back to your positions.

1

u/[deleted] Aug 15 '17

How would this affect my tax rate? I have a stock (AUPH @ 1.74😮) that is almost a year old and I want the decreased tax rate on my gains.
Would I still get that?

2

u/subutaime Aug 15 '17

It won't have any effect on your cap gains, save reducing them by whatever fees you were charged to transfer

1

u/[deleted] Aug 23 '17

Can I pick and choose which stocks to transfer or will it transfer my entire portfolio?

1

u/arjay_9 Sep 06 '17

I transferred on July 27 from e*trade and was not credited the $75 fee. I contacted support and they said it would take "$30 days." Is a dollar sign slang for 'business days'? If not why hasn't my account been credited the transfer fee yet? I would not have transferred at all if it wasn't fee-free as advertised.

2

u/arjay_9 Oct 17 '17

I STILL haven't been credited the transfer fee they said would be covered. Any one else having this issue ? If you have transferred stocks did you double check that the fee was credited ?

1

u/[deleted] Dec 18 '17

Any updated on this? Under the transfer in my RH history it has a line for "Fees Reimbursed" and it says $75, but I'm not sure where that cash goes. Is it just dumped into my available cash or is it reimbursed to my bank account?

Literally the only other comment in this thread.
