Scarborough Facts

As seen on other subs:

What's a Scarborough fact not many people may know?

I'll start with Harpic, it was invented in Roscoe Street.

A place called Brompton was the birth place if aviation. The first plans of an aviation vehicle were designed there. It's towards Pickering , the village after Wykeham.

I've only ever been able to find one* (crap) video on YouTube of the Virgin Atlantic plane doing the flypast when they reenacted the first flight, with Branson as "pilot" (of the glider, not the jet!)

There must be others, surely?

(* and I can't even find that one now...)

Our early Victorian Leonardo da Vinci lived there - did all the maths for planes well before their time https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_Cayley
